bounce entities?
hey all, i was wondering if there was a way make brushes effect the players like a trampoline would. in quake (i think its quake, maybe ut) you could fly around by just walking on a colored square, does hammer have this function?

Yes.
In HL1/2 (and I'm assuming it was similar in quake) it was done with a trgger_push entity, which is, obviously, just a brush that pushes things inside it. Go play the HL1DM map Bounce to see the best examples of jump pads. It's a bit trickier in source 'cause physics objects (including grenades and dropped weapons) and players get pushed but ragdolls don't, as far as I can tell so it looks a bit odd if you die on one, but it's definitely possible in gameplay terms. |

I agree, the bounce pads are horrible in every TFC map I've played that has them (even haste, altohugh its pretty decent in haste)

come to think of it, quake's bouce/boost pads are really nice and fluent. thats cause the original developer ment for them to be. but in hl1/2 they we're used to do other things.
so maby a quick entity for this is in order? Would really be awesome for some maps |

yeah, i was hoping just to use it for a respawn, so instead of walking out of the door in dustbowl into a pipe and rocket frenzy, you could would shoot out.
also i think a fun pub deathmatch map would be just a series of jumps in an arena, like unreal tournament |

needs a quick brush entity coded tbh. upon hitting jump it propels the player within its area with a certain vector. sorted.

Dude, it's called a trigger push.
(They'll push you across the ground, but they can't lift you unless you jump) |

If they bounce you to their maximum, are they maxi-pads?

old mapping trick.
have a "bounce pad" worldbrush with all your pretty colors. then have your trigger push set to however fast and at what angle. then have a small clip brush, that is a tiny ramp. so the player runs into the clip brush, it then ends and he is in the air. and presto, the trigger push can now add height to his path. |
