Random Freezes

Hi

since two or three days, i have strange freezes with the game. It just happens randomly, on every map, with every class, just total random. The game freezes up, looping the sound, and doesn't react anymore.

Any solutions?

Edit:
Windows XP Sp2
Nvidia 7600 Go newest drivers
1 GB RAM

It worked fine for a long time, but suddenly I got those freezes.

Try turning on V-Sync (in video options).

It works for me. I have yet to crash since activating it. Running on 30 game hours or so since.

FF has locked up my computer twice since install.

It hasn't done anything for awhile. I thought there might have been a memory leak or something because observing RAM usage going higher and higher with each new map loaded on the server...

UPDATE: Happened today again, the game locked up and the computer as well on server loading a new map. I'm not sure if this is what caused it in the past, but perhaps it had. The computer is locked up and all i can do is do a hard power off and restart.

I heard that defraging your game content may help, in steam right click hl2 then properties - defrag cache files.

I raise the details of the models to high and enable vsync from the options in FF and now i only get a freeze that its just the same but with no sound loop... but i dont get it often as i did with the other type of crash.

ever since I upped my heapsize to 512000 I've only crashed a few times. Before I did that I was crashing every 30 minutes to an hour (if I was lucky)

to change your heapsize right click on FF and go to launch options and type in
Code:
-heapsize 512000
change the first 3 digits to whatever is half of your ram
1gb=512000
512mb=256000

something like that

I totally forgot about this. It's not something ya do every time you play, I remember doin this for CS:S and crashes stopped happening almost immediately. Thank you for posting this.

I cant believe it, its 1.1 and im still getting this, i got 1,5 gb ram and i put -Heapsize 786432, its not the ram and my vcard gf 6200 256mb got the last drivers and my proccesor is p4 3.0ghz winxp sp2 and this is the ONLY source game/mod where i get a loop freeze. Tried models at high + vsync ingame enabled.. of course all that make that i get the crash less often but still, now i had it twice in 10 minutes... im not going to be able to play scrims like this.

Maybe you barking up the wrong tree. Copy and past this in your internet browser,

steam://support/?Issues=*

It could be a conflicting background program.

I always make sure I close everything before launching any games (espcially source related) I have this program to put sticky notes on my desktop called "hott notes 4" and it doens't seem to like steam or the source engine!
