Killzone 2
anyone got/played it? im usually not a console FPS fan due to controllers sucking fat cocks, but i bought this game the other day and so far ive been enjoying the hell out of it (i also bought an xfps rateup adapter to let me use my keyboard and mouse, but that wont be here until tomorrow). this is the first game ive played where using the controller to aim didnt make me want to throw it (fuck you very much resistance, cod4, and gears of war). but yeah...
so far the campaign has been a lot of fun. a shitload of action and some really fun battles. great sound and visuals make it intense, and shooting helghast is ridiculously satisfying. enemy AI is pretty decent in groups: they lay down covering fire while trying to flank you and flush you out of cover with grenades. by themselves, though, they are pretty stupid. oftentimes its a good idea to just sprint at them with the knife and stab them, because they will either get confused and just run to try and find cover or only shoot you a couple times (not enough to kill you) before you get to them and kill them with one hit from the knife. your health regenerates, and being shot while sprinting doesnt slow you down or anything, so on normal difficulty, this is a pretty viable strategy for most one-on-one(or two) battles. friendly AI in groups is also pretty decent, but when it is just you and another guy or two... not so much. i havent tried the multiplayer yet, so i cant comment on that, but so far im really digging the game (will be going online to try out MP soon). anyone else? |

Skanky, I require a write up. If you do not give this to me, we will have to have that one 'talk' we had four months ago.

I've rented the game from Gamefly and i'm loving the multiplayer. It's just a little hard if you're not used to killzone. I never played the mp part of either of the games until today, but it seems like rounds consist of 5 gamemodes? I joined a game that had capture and hold, but after that it became assassination, body count, and other stuff afterwards. At first you only get to choose from two assault rifles, but as you rank up you'll get more shit.
There's this one medal where it gives you 3 XP instead of 2, per kill. Though, you have to achieve the Killing Specialist? ribbon in 8 rounds, meaning 8 times. Which is get 10% of the kills. So far I only got it once, but it's the same way with other medals, just not 8 times. Get certain about of ribbons over and over to unlock a medal of that type. |

Very sexy looking game. Was watching my neighbors play it the other day. It was a new game that I was actually interested in.

it may just be the way the killzone2 controls are (google killzone2 controls for more info/bitches whining), but i simply could not get it to function in a way that was remotely comfortable. either its not sensitive enough and i cant turn fast enough while sprinting, or its too sensitive, making it impossible to make any fine tuning to my aim. as i said, it may simply be the way the game itself handles aiming, and the only other FPS i have for ps3 is mirrors edge, so i cant quite decide whether i want to send it back or not just yet. and the fact that i cant use my saitek keyboard really pisses me off, because its too much of a hassle to swap out keyboards when i play ps3 (my pc, ps3, tv, everything is all on one desk). at the moment im thinking i wasted $100 :\ gonna have to try it with another fps though, because it may just be that killzone is better with a controller (fucking blasphemy!) |

One thing I read many people complaining about is that most console FPS have accelerated turning (the dumbest thing on the planet but a necessity for most console FPS games) and this made any sort of aiming or movement a chore. That's mainly why I wanted to know about it.
Thanks though.

yeah, im thinking im probably going to return it. as of yet, i dont think there is any way to truly get a mouse and keyboard functioning on a ps3 as they do on pc, which is a goddamn shame
that said, after a few hours of killzone2 online, i have gotten much more used to using the controller and am actually doing fairly well. still doesnt compare to the responsiveness of using a kb/m by a longshot though. |

UT3 has straight up keyboard and mouse support... but that's still something I'd rather get for PC for all the mods and more players at a time.
Other than that, yeah, that's about what I thought about that item. I thought it would have been god on wheels if it actually worked right... but lesigh. Big thanks for trying it out though.

Picked up a copy today. Great game, although the controls do give you trouble. Turning up the sensitivity helps... somewhat. Either way, it's a fun game.

goddamn this game is fun. i got the top 6% honor last week
never been a stat whore, but it feels pretty good knowing that im more gooder than a lot of people out there without putting ridiculous amounts of time into the game (rl is more important, usually). combining badges is fucking awesome too. so far, tactician with health packs is my favorite combination, but tactician with c4 is awesome for s&d. good times, good times. |

I personally don't like it. Being a offline fag like myself, I don't like ranking up to the highest rank to unlock all classes. I want everything to be available from the start. Well, not every medal and unlock, but at least more than 2 primary weapons. I wish they implemented a offline ranking system, or just made it possible to have a separate ranking system for offline bot matches that didn't interfere with online for those who have connection problems or no PSN.

yeah if you dont want to/cant play online, the ranking system really sucks. They should have an offline ranking system, or just have everything immediately available when playing offline. I know they were really going for an online multiplayer, but they could have showed some love to those that prefer to play offline. No multiplayer splitscreen is kinda lame as well.
