Windows Dedicated Server Install Guide
here ya go, wrote this up real quick..
Windows FF dedicated server install Download the Windows HLDS Update Tool Install the hldsupdatetool Run the following command at a dos prompt or run box: Code:
c:\path\to\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game hl2mp -dir c:\path\to\install Unzip the fortressforever.zip to the root folder of the new game server Make a shortcut to the srcds.exe Edit it and add the following line Code:
-console -game FortressForever +ip x.x.x.x -port 27015 +maxplayers 20 +exec server.cfg +map ff_well Code:
-tickrate 33 +fps_max 250 |

I have tha same peoblem on my server.
He gives the same errors. And when i want to join the server, then i can choose between the red or blue team. But when normally the screen for the classes need to pop up, then i cant see it and its crashing. I have this server on my server at home. I play this game with my norml desktop. i`m no server admin, and it is very confusing for beginners, but so far i have it working and this is briefly what i did..
1) as per rabidkevin`s post, i downloaded the hlds update tool and updated files etc just as he did, but why i do not know yet :P 2) goto tools in steam and install source dedicated server, it may be installed into steamapps/youraccount/source dedicated server/ 3) download the ff server files and extract to /source dedicated server/ 4) click the the source dedicated server in steam/tools and then properties/set launch options and paste in your commands. this is my command line .. srcds.exe -game FortressForever +ip xxx.xxx.x.xxx -port 27016 +maxplayers 8 +exec server.cfg +map ff_well -tickrate 66 +fps_max 100 you can also create a desktop shortcut again, i`m no network admin either, but i had to enter my local ip in the command line above, and briefly forwarded ports 27000-27039 in the router i`m not exactly sure which ones are required but they suffice for running my FF server. please correct me if i`m wrong , but also make it clear for our newbie FF players so we can help them progress wub Amiga |

Yeah, your way works because you are doing it through Steam.
Kevin was doing it in a manner that you didn't need Steam, which is why you download the hldsupdatetool. His way, once the hldsupdatetool has run, you put the fortressforever files in where the source dedicated server icon is that the hldsupdatetool just created. Then create a shortcut to the srcds.exe. It eliminates Steam running. Doing it both of your ways, there is then 2 places where the srcds.exe is. Kevin's way frees up resources because it's not reliant on Steam. What ever port you specify in the options is the only port that you need to forward through your router. Thanks for bringing that up. That's a good point. Thanks for posting. The more input, the better. |

You don't need Steam to run a dedicated server. There's a separate download on the "Get Steam Now" page for the HLDS Update Tool. It's a console application that will download all the necessary files. You don't even need to put in your steam account name/password.

Would anyone be interested in a "one-touch install" for FF?
I made one for TF2. It's basicly a small .exe and several .bat files that will auto-install the whole server (asking for a name and rcon) and then the bat files start it up. All I would need is a standard server.cfg file |

I make three boot-up BAT files. what size servers and tickrate? I was thinking a ticrate of 66 but I'm not sure of the max FF player size...... Is 12/16/24 good? |

I am having a slight problem, I’ve set up a server, but it doesn’t work. I suspect that I have extracted the contents of the - “FortressForever1.1_full.zip” – “FortressForever1.11_incremental.zip” – “ff111to20server.zip” – I assume these are all server files since they came from the Server section in the wiki download page.
Now it seems that the first file “FortressForever1.1_full.zip” has a FortressForever folder in it, do I have to extract it into the game folder the same as orangebox for example? But then the second file FortressForever1.11_incremental.zip” doesn’t have FortressForever folder in it, it contains ‘bin, cfg, maps, resource’ folders and few files. So should I extract it into the game base directory, or FortressForever directory? Then the third “ff111to20server.zip” also contains FortressForever folder. Thank you for your help. |

You need to extract the 1.1 FortressForever file to your main directory.
The 1.11 files go into the newly created FortressForever file from the 1.1 extraction. And for the 1.11 - 2.0 open the FortressForever file and then extract all files in there into the FortressForever File you already have.
