Which was the best Settlers Game?

Anyone who played the settlers series know which is the best? I played one and loved it when I was younger but I can't remember which, and I'm too lazy to try all of them.

I haven't branched out into the other games, but the basic Settlers of Catan game is pretty awesome. There's a free online component as well, at www.PlayCatan.com

i remember playing settlers on amiga 500 and it was awesome

I liked the basic settlers of catan the best. And honestly the only expansion worth getting for it is the seafarers of catan + the 5-6 player extensions.

With that the rules don't change much, they just give you ships, and more tiles (especially water tiles). With all those extra tiles you can do what we did and go online and print out pictures of the gold and volcano tiles and tape them onto one of the many spare water tiles you have. You don't have to use the volcano and gold tiles all the time but they make for some interesting change ups.

Any expansion after that changes the game completely, and makes it far more complicated
