Use Mobile Phone Like Wireless Router On Desktop?

I moved house. ISP said it will take up to 3 weeks till I get net back on the same landline number. Today is end of week 2... so not much point of this post now, but what the heck.

There is some very close unsecured router that I can connect to for the mean time on the laptop and mobile. (Cheeky cheeky. I will go and find the owner when I get the net back because I can even access their router settings.)

I could use a crossover cable and link up laptop to desktop and use the lappys wireless, right? But I'd have to go all the way into town, and with 1 week left it isn't worth it now.

I have a Samsung S5560. Connection USB. There is an option in the software to use the to get internet access via the mobiles network provider but I don't want that.

If either machine is gigabit then any cable will do, since the gigabit standard has built in crossover detection/function on the hardware.

If you already have a switch or router you may not need a cross over, connect both to the switch. 1 with the internet connection to the unlink port if it has one. You have to turn on Internet Connection Sharing in Windows. You may be interested in this, anytime you need internet and you have cell phone data coverage, bam:

Turns your phone connected to pc into a data modem without paying your isp for the privy or hacking your phone. I use this almost daily. Works for a backup data connection when main isp fails as well.
