TFC Modifications / Scripting

Hello all. To begin--TFC modifications. I asked this in another thread, but received no reply:

What TFC modifications are at play in this video:

http://media.ozfortress.com/avis/TriNitroToluene.avi

(Warning: Big Download)

I'm noting cel shaded models, altered weapon effects, altered weapon models and so on. I've been out of the TFC loop for quite some time, and have only begun to play again recently. That being said, I use old models for nostalgic effect.

Are the alterations in the aforementioned video legal? Do they count as cheats? Does VAC pick up on them? Moreover, what are your opinions on them, aesthetically? I only ask because they seem to contribute a nice dose of graphical freshness to TFC, and it's of a sort that I am not familiar with.

Secondly--TFC scripting. I'm essentially looking to change my grenade timer to the in-game female voice countdown. Is there any benefit to still doing this, or has valve fixed the grenade-timing code in the meantime?

Please forgive the seemingly silly questions. I'm only now getting back into TFC after two years out, and much has changed in the interim. Thank you in advance for any responses.

The only modifications I saw in the video are the ones that you had already pointed out. And yes, every modification I saw in the video is legal so I do not see why you can't have them.

About the grenade timer, you can find loads of grenade timers here, www.custom-tfc.co.uk. And are there benifits? That all depends on personal preference. Try a few different timers out to see what you like, I prefer the default beeps.

And the offense clips on the avi were poo

Thanks for the reply, player. Do you have any idea which cel-shaded models they were using in particular? Is it a custom-pack? I know the avi itself wasn't the most spectacular--I was more interested in how they modded TFC itself.

Are custom models loaded in console, or are they simply permanent replacements to the TFC files that already exist in the directory?

I believe the person who made those particular toon models was called Souljah, not sure though. The customisation are put into the Steam TFC folders. For example, you would put the models into the 'models' folder and the sprites into the 'sprites' folder.

Thanks for all of the help thus far guys. This is, I think, my last question:

In a number of .avis I've seen, people generally have their weapon models "extended" away from them toward their crosshair. I used to remember the console command to set this distance, but I've since forgotten it. Could anyone possibly help with this minor detail? Thanks again.

Not entirely sure what you mean here, the closest thing I can think of is the fov (field of view - actually it might be vision. Pretty sure its view though) command. 90 is default, but if you set it to, say 120 or 130 (with the command "fov 120" in the console) it will widen the field of view. Sometimes this results in extending beyond the weapon model making it appear stretched i guess. If that's not what you mean then sorry

Wow those are some old customisations
Yes they are all legal VAC wise, the only thing illegal in most leagues is different explosions sprites and modified ax1.wav.
