Honestly, I liked the 2.xx version way back when. I'm not big on all the stuff they've added on since then.

Yeah, me neither but you can uncheck all that new stuff during installation. Or choose a preset... anything other than "full" will do. But maybe you already know this.

I like Winamp 2 as well. Tried 3.x for a while and ended up leaving it for iTunes. Frankly I listen more to my iPod than anything else....keep holding out we'll see a larger hard drive show in the next gen iPod classic...160 GB isn't enough...

I also preferred winamp 2.x but have since moved to 5.56. If I remember right I made the move because one of the things I used didn't like having the older winamp going or something like that.

5.56 works just as good as 2.x and heck I even have it using an old skin from 2.x (been using that skin for as long as I can remember, at least 7 years)

Before I go and download it, does it play music videos? I have a rather large collection of those(some I got from iTunes, some I got from YouTube), and would love to be able to drop those into a playlist like I can on iTunes. Not that I have anything against iTunes, I do use it quite a bit.... but it's nice to have choices.

I know nothing on the video side to Winamp. I know it can play videos, that's all I know. I use MPC - HC for videos.

Like Paft I don't use winamp for videos. I do know that it can play videos though. Personally I just use media player for videos as that does what I need it to do.

Here is the thing, download winamp, install it, being VERY careful and read everything as there are some tool bars included. Play a video, if it doesn't play and/or if you don't like it, uninstall it.

Playback formats

Winamp supports playback of Windows Media Video and Nullsoft Streaming Video. For MPEG Video, AVI and other unsupported video types, Winamp uses Microsoft's DirectShow API for playback, allowing playback of most of the video formats supported by Windows Media Player. 5.1 Surround sound is supported where formats and decoders allow.[4]

Nice post. I was too lazy.

Also, the reason I made this thread is to see what people are using, as there are so many players out there. I wasn't suggesting that everyone tries Winamp.

Last year sometime I decided to do some research on media players to try and determine the best one, and at the top of the majority of the lists was a program called Media Monkey, forgot the exact reasons but I think it just has more features and is an all round great media player.

It has complete customizability with themes, buttons, colours etc... but I set it to look fairly basic because I just prefer things easy to use. I used Winamp for years though before this.

As of late, Google Music on PC/Android, or I just stream Digitally Imported through whatever (Winamp on my Windows installation at home).

WinAmp for many many years, just dropped it about 3 months ago for iTunes. After reformatting about a week ago though, and no media player installed at the time, I've been using Google Music.

I switched to iTunes strictly for the fact that WinAmp when sorting by album, defaults to Album -> Artist -> Disc # -> Track #, which may work for some people, but not for me as I've got too many albums with multiple artists/DJs/composers/etc. iTunes sorting via album defaults to Album -> Disc # -> Track # -> Artist, which is exactly what I need for my OCD organization.

Looks like users will be able to stream songs on Spotify through Facebook. I have a feeling this service is going to get big, and fast.
