Keyboard recommendations?
I'm in the market for a new keyboard, and was hoping to get some recommendations on what might be my "ideal" kb.
Needs: - Work (typing) 80% Gaming 20% (give or take 10%) - ergonomic (if possible, no split kb's though) - wired (unless wireless gaming actually works well) - comfortable to type on (not too mushy) - price is not an issue (at least for now) I've been looking at (with some of the comments I've read): - Logitech Wave (but for FPS gaming it is not good due to the difficult distance on some of the keystrokes) - MS Comfort Curve 2000 ergonomic (similar to wave, but cheaply made) - Logitech GS11 - Logitech GS15 - Saitek Eclipse I or Eclipse II (good but ink on keys doesn't last) - Saitek Cyborg Even though I think I want a wired kb, the Microsoft 7000 and the Microsoft 6000 are both extremely inviting, as other than being wireless they both seem to fit my needs. Thoughts? Recommendations? |

I have a Saitek Eclipse 1. It was awesome while it lasted. Methinks somone spilled water on it, because most of the LEDs no longer light, and even a few keys don't work now.
I've had to bring out an old PS/2 Keyboard to use as a secondary one for work stuff, but keep the Eclipse for gaming. I like its feel. |

I currently use the Saitek's gamers keyboard, an extinct variation on the eclipse (which looks better imo), so I could certainly recommend the Eclipse. The G15 from logitech seems to be doing good too, and has an LCD screen with macros and stuff.

I have a standard issue Logitech wirless desktop, it shipped with my first MoBo and still very happy!
I also own a Cherry Compact keyboard, it's VERY comfortable for it's size, and not lame like most laptop keyboards. |

I also have a Logitech G15 keyboard. If you do go for it, try to get the version 1 of the keyboard.
The V1 has more of the G buttons on it. It also has a movable LCD. The USB slots in both keyboards are only 1.1 which I think was a huge mistake seeing as how 2.0 was out and the power could have been sent down the USB line. I love this keyboard, though it was expensive but it is well worth it. I have quite a heavy hand when typing and its survived close to 2 years of using it every day for hours on end. |

I've used the Microsoft Internet and Multimedia keyboards for years. I've run the gamut from keytronic to NMB to logitech and the MS keyboards have worked well for me. As to wireless I am a believer in the KISS principle. Operating off of batteries and rf is just one more thing to fail when you least want it to do so.

I've been using a Saitek Executive for years, paint isn't even fading. I've spilt water, pop, and ice cream on it too.

Ergonomics isn't what it's cracked to be. Your hands, generally, don't ever angle correctly with them and they cause more strain than they should. Mainly, though, it's about how you type. I, for example, don't type using home row keys. My hands generally look like this:
Right Hand: Pinky=Shift Ring=A Middle=W Pointer=E,D,R,F (sits in the middle of them all, more on F though) Thumb=Space Left Hand: Pinky=Floating above the ',],\, and enter keys. Generally does nothing unless I will myself to use it. Ring=P Middle=I,K,L,O Pointer=J,K,N,M Thumb=On the, traditional, wrist rest. Please, note, though that my hands do the moving, not my fingers. This means I don't cramp up when typing and won't be getting arthritis from typing either. I rarely ever have my fingers crunched together like your traditional typer has and, as a result, I type about three times faster than your average typist (ranging from 120-180 WPM) and about 20% more efficient than those payed to type. Did I mention I've won competitions? Yeah, I'm bad-ass. If you use homerow typing, I'm sorry . As for a good keyboard? G15 is one of the best. Old version, not the new. The new version has less G keys and the little flippy screen isn't flippy anymore .

My Saitek gamer keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever had. It's staight, and it works great. Even with the heavy use of bunnyhopping, my jump key is still intact
