Problems Mirroring Bases
Help would be appreciated... again.
Don't worry I'm not quiting my day job. I've never run into this before and I've been mapping for years. I've always lacked knowledge about the game engine relying purely on my geometry classes and online tutorials for guidance. Here's my problem. When trying to copy/paste and 180 a mirror of my map (as mappers do when reaching the conclusion of a symmetric design) I got bugs. First off, leaks appeared where none should have appeared. I started getting the CONTENTS_SOLID error. Next, my hammer started crashing which isn't completely uncommon when attempting to copy/paste so much at once. Lastly, after saving my design (post copy/paste) I reopened the file and found nothing saved. What I had copy/pasted wasn't there. Attempting a copy/paste job again I turned some of my world polys into func_details before saving. I then saved, closed it up, opened it, and found the polys that were func_details remained but all other world polys and entities (from the paste) disappeared. BumGravy already made comment about my overlapping world brushes and ramp work which I'm now in the process of cleaning up. But even with some overlapping brushes, i don't think i should be having the problems i listed above; Common logic dictates: If the map worked before a copy/paste then why would it stop working simply because i duplicated what already existed? |

Crisis averted. I think Gator fixed me up with some basic work-arounds.

for the "paste not appearing when you open hammer" make sure your vis groups are not turned off
