Well, maybe you could have liek bots on the shark team, and auto spawn like 3 of them into a team with lua or whatever. Sharks, that would be awesome.

Any word on the lazers?

How can a forum reply be annoying? It's not like I'm standing behind you shouting LAZERS into your ear. Now that's annoying. But a forum post? You can scroll past that. Not annoying.

MightyLotu has some awesome suggestions. Some I've considered, but they're generally beyond my talents, not possible in this engine, or might cause further drops in framerate while I'm already struggling with current drops. Having said all that I don't want to just cop-out: so if another mapper wants to lend their expertise, please don't stay silent.

I considered the plank, but thought it'd be a little too cartoony in a rigid map. Since there are plenty of concs already and access to ladders, I probably won't do the plank. There's also very little reason to travel upward unless you're a sniper.

just a question, do you have all the faces that are not visable textured with no draw? imo from what i have seen there should be no reason for dropped frames

Well I learned mapping through online tutorials and trial 'n error, so I'm not certain all my non-visable faces are textured with no draw. It seems you think this could drag the map down a significant amount, so I'll check. I don't think there's much I can do with the boat, but the skybox could probably be cleaned up some.

This may just be a dumb worry, but how big is the map (ship)? If things get too tight, it may not work..
EDIT: Looks awesome though.

The easiest and best thing I can probably do is post the beta. Those who care enough can run through it. Feel free to post pics and whatever. This will link you to my filefront page where my TFC maps are also located with pics. If you still want pics of the map in higher res, bug me later.

Map Beta:

Forgot to include a few sounds, this is just the bsp in a zip.

Easiest way to ensure all nonvis faces have nodraw is to first map all brushs with just one of the dev textures. Then at the end of your map with all your walls textured use the find and replace feature with nodraw. Thats how I do it.

Same here, but some people think we are insane for doing that. I know a couple people who texture everything in nodraw first, then textures.

Those sails look pretty bland, man.

Pretty really bland.

If at all possible, you should make/commission an animated model for 'em, give 'em some more realism, maybe flap in the breeze. Rough 'em up a bit, too. Battle scars, y'know?

The Battle-Scar idea could work... a custom texture wouldn't be too hard on the sale (currently I think it's snow). The sails are being used as walls to block vis and create natural boundaries... so I probably won't be going to models for that reason... plus I'm not a modeler so I'd have to find someone to do that work which isn't likely. I looked into modeling myself once, and it's just a huge headache: to create a simple shape with a texture requires I don't know how many programs and the modeling programs are not the easiest to learn.

Why not have two different ships with boarding planks going from one to the other... Make it like one ship boarded the other and they are involved in a naval battle.

Could even have cannons firing randomly at the ships, and the water will be shark infested (i.e. instant death).

You could put the flag in the crow's nest or something. d:
