stowaway (the first one)
well i felt like making a map and decided id remake the first stowaway, this map was really popular early on in tfc. i've made quite alot of alterations but the layout remains similar to the original. anyhow see if you can recognise it!
ive merged both respawns into one, and moved it across to the otherside of the ramp room. the respawn has 3 exits to evade spam. the flag room is alot bigger, removed the walls (might need changing) i got rid of the rear water entrance, and ive put in a cave through the side of the 2nd ramp room, but its not finished at the moment and just closed off like scenery for the time being. see if its required after playing it. obviously this map is gonna need a massive playtest, it might play like crap but at least i had fun making it. it is however still wip so im open to suggestions for improvement. ive, still got the outside and the view from the fr to finish up. hopefully try and get a beta out soon or at least one base and let red spawn outside. follow this link for hi res and a few more screenshots http://www.filefortress.eu/images/random/stow1/ Last edited by Elmo; 08-11-2009 at 11:07 AM. |

looking forward to playing it, although it looks like sgs might have a tough time locking on in the flagroom with the no walls/pillars instead

yeh true thiz, although there is a barrier between the middle two pillars, just not the side two which can easily be added.
i added a vent from the rr, above the pipe model to the top of the elevator. this was originally intended for example (fr defence engy/demo/soldier) could throw a lucky gren (spam) if the enemy took the flag 3 bags and get a lucky kill bottom of the steps. or maybe rr soly can spam rockets up there if lift defence is down etc. but it is also big enough to let the player models through at the mo. the corridors are a little wider and there are ramps at the side of the rr steps, so you can ramp slide if you catch your conc right, and should make it a little better for movement than just a pure dm map. the lower entrance is alot wider and doesnt have a respawn anymore, and the fences cant be jumped over but can be concd over, so it should aid the offence from spam when the flag is being defended there. been spending time optimising the map, everything is aligned to a grid of 4, nodrawed every non visible face, func detailed as much geometry as possible, and enclosed alot of places with simple nodraw brushes. also been adding hint brushes, to the indoor parts so far and seem to be getting 250+ fps. but im not an expert so i dont really know what i should be aiming for. and still trying to think what the outside should look like. Looks BEAUTIFUL!! I really like all the little details here and there! Never played the original Stowaway in TFC but from the looks of it I think I'm really going to enjoy it! As I said in Credge's map thread we really REALLY need some new maps to play so thank you for making this sexy sexy map for us all, mucho appreciated! Can't wait to try it out!!!

why make new maps, when you can REMAKE them
You really got a distinct style ryu, more minimalist than say LEN with his cars and his horses and whatnot :P Roaming about it ingame looked really sweet; good attention to details as well, such as the hanging thingy infront of hole (don't know the name of that "hook" in english). Can't wait to play 4v4, and can't really suggest anything before that either. Betatest? |

nice try...
but try again. I don't like the style at all. I mean i don't want to be harsh but you might want to put some prop_static garbage bins so you don't have to explain to people why it stinks so much. Might want to try spending more time. Hope to see better results in the future.
