8v8 still alive?
Hello all,
I'm pretty new to FF, since I only bought the Orange Box last weekend. I played TF2 for a few hours and got bored with it so I decided to install FF for the good old tfc feeling and I'm loving it, even though it's a bit different and I have to get used to it. I was wondering if there are any leagues still playing 8v8 (or more depending on the map) since I'm seeing more 4v4 and 5v5 looking around at these pages and looking up leagues. The reason I'm asking this is because in TFC I always found this to be the most enjoyable format. Also, could anyone point me to the main (preferably Euro) irc server and some channels were I could idle. I'm not ever gonna get as active as I used to be in TFC (used to be part of -HoS-, a Belgian clan which had a moderate level imo, won second division of betfcl at one time). The reason I want to idle there is to be able to help some clans if they need extra people to practice or just to be able to help fill up some server to play a bit more structured then on normal pubs where everyone goes defence and builds 5 sgs in shutdown and 4 soldiers are deffing the entrances, since that becomes tedious quickly if half your team wants to def against the one spy that sometimes enters the base. Hope to catch some of you guys on a server some day. Best Regards, Vasa |

Hey Vasa,
Unfortunately, the playerbase in FF simply isn't large enough to do an 8v8 league... it's barely large enough to do 5v league. At present, the closest you're going to get to the 8v experience is joining a 4v league. Sorry man, but welcome to the game. Every player helps illogicality-

I suspected that would be the reason unfortunately. Are the pickups the same because if they're 8v8 I'm definitely gonna be looking out to join of those some time.

Europe, Belgium, though I don't seem to be having a lot of lag when connecting to US servers.
On European servers I tend to have an enjoyable ping below 20. |

The community might be small, but I see a lot of people sporting clan tags around and you only really need four clans to start a little league. Are these clans so short of people they couldn't manage an 8v8 each week?
I would find it very surprising if we couldn't find four clans in the FF community capable of participating in an 8v8 league. |

then prepare yourself to be surprised, because there have been two attempts at 7v7 leagues that have failed after a couple weeks. most teams cant field 7 a week, let alone 8.

The goal is to do it weekly, and we'll have as much fun as possible. The only barrier is the ping.

I'm sure AE and e0 could field 8 players, I'm not aware of the member counts of the other clans around though, maybe I am a little too optimistic about it.
As for the NA vs. EU match, there is no reason why this can't occur every week. There is a decent pool of good players available for selection for both teams and even if half of the originals can't make it I'm sure they could be replaced well enough. |

I doubt AE or e0 can
AE dropped from the leagues and us.... well maybe if I put my non League members in the match then maybe its possible.

Ah well that's a shame, I felt both e0 and AE were two of the largest clans in the community which led me to believe you'd both have at least 8 main members.
In that case I think we're a few months away from having four decent clans capable of fielding 8 players for a basic league, could even be longer which would be a shame. |
