Steam + Mac?
Hey guys, I have a macbook for work, and was wondering if there was a way to get steam to work with a mac. I cant dual boot because this is a company laptop. I think i might be able to download an emulator, but im not too sure.

You don't want to run 3d games in a Virtural Machine (Parallels). If you want to run games, set up a boot camp partition on your macbook and do it that way. It will be 100x better.

It works fine in Parallels. I know a guy who had TF2 running on a mac book under parallels.

Wine (maybe Darwine for Macs), Boot Camp, or Parallels are your best bets. If you don't feel like buying or "acquiring" a copy of Windows then you should probably go down the Wine route.

Not to be contrary - I'm sure it would 'run' in parallels, but it would run a lot better in boot camp. No virtualization going on there - straight i/o from the HDD, RAM and CPU..

VMware Fusion. This way any vm's you make will also work on Windows or Linux under VMware Workstation.

Lemme tell you right now, on this Macbook Pro.
Steam will have too much complications with Wine, and when you somehow manage to get the game running, it'll be at ridiculously low FPS on Direct x 8. Parallel's screenshot of TF2 is digusting. Apparently, theirs also only supports up to Direct x 8. |

So yes, Boot camp might be better (if it is even still supported), but IT'S OF NO HELP HERE. |

Steam under wine works fine for the most part under Linux, Macs might have more complications with it.

My fault :-/
Do it anyway? Just delete the bootcamp partition before you quit/get fired, lol.
