Wide Open (ctf)
STATUS :
in development - 25% Hey, I've watched this mod for a long long time now, and as the oldschool TFC player I am, I'm really awaiting the release of this mod. I'm a very experienced mapper when it comes to Half-life 1, I've been with SvenCo-op for 6 years now and have worked on many projects. You can see my work over at my site : http://www.goannasvencoop.com/Hezus When it comes to TFC mapping my history is rather blank, only 1 map has been created by me, wideopen. Origionally this was a shutdown oriented map on urban texture style. I still like the title of the map, so that's why I'm going to use it for FF. So much for the history, now back to the present. I don't have much experience with HL2 mapping, so I'm still reading up on the new possiblities. Still, I've tried my first attempt on a FF map. Normally I'm drawing out plans before I start, but somehow this came to me spontaniously. ff_WideOpen is a CTF map with 2 underground facilities. They could be connected to eachother by outside area, or through a small tunnel system, that is yet to decide. I'm aiming for a futuristic/industrial/dark look. Till now I've only started with the blue flagroom, so that's the only thing I can show you. What I would like to know though, is your comments and suggestions on the theme and if you have any input on the layout, idea's etc On to the screenshots : UPDATED : 10th November 2006 As you can see the doors end into nothingness, I still have to work that out futher. The lighting could use a bit of touchup and it lacks decals and signs (don't have the textures for it yet), but the base is there. If you have idea's, critism, suggestions, comments or anything, let me know ! Thanks ahead and cheers ! Last edited by o_hezus; 11-10-2006 at 07:00 PM. |

love openfire, one of my favourite TFC maps architecurally, and also gameplay wise. I like the new layout ideas, but why keep the name openfire if it's going to be a different map? As you can see in the media pages, the unofficial remake by CrackerJack is well into development and looks like a great update of a great map. will you be using a security system like openfire?

Looks good. I'd say get rid of the blue lights or make them lighter blue, more close to white. Also (this may just be me) I dont like the light models you are using They always remind me of some poor c17 house of HL2.
Also, did you know that FF dev team is already re-making your map? Just asking because why do another version of it then? |

some things which come to mind:
Place in some windows and allow more light to flood in Increase the ambient lighting level and add some colour to it. Make the ceiling, walls, and floor different colours or at the very least different shades of the same colour. Add in some darker metallic elements in trim so its not all grey. Add subtle colours of blue or yellow/orange to spotlights, with a light_spot emitting the same colour from the same point |

Holy crap I accidently named it Open Fire... It should be Wide Open.. sorry for that. Can a moderator change the title of the thread please and delete the replies regarding the open fire issue ? Must have been into old TFC feeling too much while posting this..
So, this is not the remake of Openfire Last edited by o_hezus; 10-21-2006 at 11:12 AM. |

You need a custom skinned light model to change the model colour i believe, HL2 only comes with white or red lights.

FF should come with some better lighting fixtures, and other than that the brushwork is looking fantastic so far.
