Very long connection times...

Generally, when I join a game or the server switches levels, it takes 3-5 minutes to get through "sending client info." I don't have this problem with other source games, like Team Fortress 2, which load games in less than 20 seconds.

My system specs are:

Windows XP Home
1024 MB RAM
128 Graphics RAM, ATI Radeon X300
4.0 GHz Processor

I don't know why this happens, although I haven't defragmented in ages.

There's nothing wrong with the game once it's finally loaded, it just take VERY long.

My load times are short. I'm afraid my new PC will make them longer as seems to be the trend .

I may have to keep this one around for FF or something.

yeah...I'm pretty sure my problem is a lack of ram. But I heard there's a pill you can take these days that helps men like us load faster and you get a full month free!

/joke

Really though I run vista off of 2gb ram so I'm thinking if I upgrade it should solve the problem.

On my old system (XP2500 with 1 gig ram) I could get up, go to the kitchen, get a drink, come back sit down, get comfy, and still wait a bit before the map would come up. About 5 or 6 minutes.

With my new machine (X2 4800 with 3 gigs of ram) I only have about half the time to do that. Annoying, but I put up with it cause I like the game.

Hmmm, my load times are about 30 seconds to a minute for a first load (and much faster afterwards). This on an Athlon 64 3500+ with 2 gigs of RAM.

I suggest to anyone that can to get at least 2 gigs of ram. That's around $45 now (for two 1-gig sticks). Pretty cheap, and it makes gaming much more bearable.

i load in a matter of seconds. like jiggles said, when i first join the server it takes a lil bit(except AE, almost instant connection there), all map changes take seconds afterwards. i'm usually the first one in the game after a map change.

vista
quad core 2.4
4 gb corsair xms2 dominators
hd 2900 xt

if that means anything...

yep I truly think mines a case of not enough ram...but I do notice a major decrease in load time the longer I play...first load is really long then it gets better

well, naturally, thats how it works. unless you have Vista, XP only "remembers" was program/file or w/e you use last until you close the program, and only prefetches it. Vista SuperFetches it, and makes load times and everything much faster.

Memory is so cheap right now that I'd go all the way to 8 gigs if 32-bit windows supported it.
