Vista 64 is still quite a bit lower than 32bit XP in 3dm06. I'm only mildly oc'ing and no vid card oc'ing yet. We'll see down the road hehe. I'm not going to oc the 3870x2 until I can get a better automatic fan profile on there. The 2nd GPU core idles at around 70c and shows as pulling more amps constantly than the first GPU.. oddness. Will see what Sapphire says about the bios..

It isn't too bad with the 8.3 hotfix driver. Everything else has been fine. Didn't have any issues with the xfi. Application support has been weird. Itunes wiped out my dvd drive and Acrobat failed to work without a poorly documented licensing file fix thing.. Other than that it hasn't been too bad! hah..

Heh yeah, the worst part is tons of people have had the DVD drive disappearing problem w/Vista. I wasn't able to find shit about it on the net as far as a fix, except for some registry stuff to try from Microsoft that didn't work, and some talk about the Gear driver that Itunes installs not being compatible w/AHCI.

It was easy enough to fix though, just disabled AHCI for the sata channel my drive was on and problem = solved.. Still though.. There are so many frustrated people, I was surprised.

^This shoudn't happen with an OS. And IF it happens, the user shoudn'tbe the one fixing the problem.

Your 2nd GPU core idles at 70C?? That seems a bit too high.
Do you use RivaTuner to control your fan speed on your Vid Cards?
my 8800GT's idle around 64 C without Riva. With Riva my idle speed is
around GPU1@47C, GPU2@46C with fan speed at 60% and a soldering fan too boot...lol (ghetto rigged but works awesome)

My friend that has 2x 3870's, flashed his GPU bios with a higher voltage setting and was able to OC the core from 750 up over 950+ and has been stable. The
fan settings in RivaTuner stay at 90% using stock fans.

I don't have the balls yet to flash my GPU's lol...possibly someday.

Wow. The warmest thing in my PC right now is my processor at 44 C. Everything else is in the 30s.

The default auto fan speed setting keeps the fan @ like 11% for 2d shit and doesn't raise it until you get up higher than it's at now... It's almost silent of course but on the warm side.

If I manually push the fan speed to 40%, the temps drop to the 40s. The 2nd GPU is always a bit warmer cause it's getting the hot air from the first with the way the heatsink is setup.

At any rate, I don't want to ghetto rig the fan to run at set increments based on the GPU temp, nor have I figured out a way to base the fan speed off of that 2nd GPU with manual cfg in Rivatuner.

I'm waiting for

1:an updated bios(which looks like Visiontek just released one today)

and

2: Some smart person to build their own auto lookup table for the other auto setting these cards have in RT.. and then use theirs.

I couldn't figure the auto shit out. The manual funky way using the event triggers in RT seemed kinda iffy to me, and I run this machine in my bedroom so I'd rather not peg it at 40% or whatever, it's quite loud over 30%ish

With RivaTuner I had some issues with the vid drivers. So I stuck with the latest from nVidia and it works fine with RT.

I asked a friend to benchmark his FPS in Source SDK Base...here's what his number was like.

He's got an intel E8400 OCed with crossfire 2X ATI 3870's and 1066 tracer ram , and a hard drive that with REV's of 10,000 rpm. I forget what the HD is called.

intel will always own amd. AMD is trying with their quad core 9850 65nm 2.5 ghtz ....it's nice but still can't beat the E8400 in most benchmarks.

sigh....wish I went intel.

It's sad, I used to think HL2 was optimized really well, but after doing a ton of benchmarks I realized that it really isn't =\. It's sad that I can get higher FPS in games like Crysis and Oblivion on the highest settings than I can HL2.

Of course, I think the benchmark for HL2 is borked for me as the first half of the level has a slight pink tint to it similar to those that you'd see if a map had missing textures . I can still see the textures, but it all has a slight pink tint.

I get about an average of 320 FPS on the highest settings in World in Conflict.

Yeah, it sounds like you've got something wrong with your softwares. Shouldn't be any odd visual defects in that.

I got tired of the slow default 3870x2 fan speeds so I setup Rivatuner to handle the fan. I dug a bit and realized they had moved some of the features around to setup your own automatic variable fan control.. Anyway now I'm getting idles in the 40-50c range w/o any audible increase from the fan(at 30% idle vs 12 or whatever the auto profile had it at). yays.
