Your kidding right?

I have not used IE in almost 3 years and do not expect to go back anytime soon. Firefox serves my needs very well.

Funny thing, after I started using firefox, the spyware and adware stopped showing up. I dont get pop-ups like what I did while using IE, my whole system is more stable NOT using IE.

There is no reason what so ever to use a microcrash browser.

ActiveX - the worst security flaw in browser history, brought to you and loving endorsed by microcrash (microsoft).

Great point on the W3C standards...that's always puzzled me...but it's another example of MS trying to push the direction of the market. ActiveX is another example of MS doing it's own thing where security is concerned. The funny thing is that ActiveX was not initially created as a secure function. Why it ended up being allowed in an uncontrolled environment is beyond me. That said, I will not ever install ActiveX extensions in Firefox. For the sites that I end up having to deal with that use ActiveX I used IE. Otherwise I use FF and enjoy better security of not having that vulnerability to worry about.

This might also be me, but when my IE hangs when loading a page, the explorer shell tends to hang along with it. And the spyware/adware/junk is also something I've experienced. Even when people told me there was some kind of big security leak in version 2.0.x (I think it was 9), I didn't even notice and it got patched a couple of days after. Basically, I have had better experiences with firefox than I ever did with any version of IE both as a user as well as a developer. If it were up to me, IE would get banned until MS turned it into something that could actually compete with the other popular browsers.

I'm under the impression that the majority of FF users are like people who buy Macs. If you don't understand that, then you're who I'm talking about.

I also use firefox, but only because it has spell check and tabs. Now that IE7 has tabs, I don't really care.

I'm not neccesarily against Microsoft, but I'm certainly no fan either. Their products are far from perfect while open source/free alternatives always seem to beat them when it comes to important stuff. If MS didn't have such a large influence on developers and users I don't think anyone would really choose it as a viable alternative.

I might be wrong though.

Downloaded it, so far it's super fast. While I'm definitely a Firefox user at heart, for web dev, I gotta say the direction microsoft is turning with IE 8 is a great thing.

I don't care for IE, I find it insecure and dislike the interface. I'm quite happy with Opera. And yes, I did use Firefox for several years before migrating over to Opera.

On that subject, I don't care for Firefox either, to me it felt bulkier and slower than Opera (and yes I'm well aware of the pipelines tweak, which did little for me. Then again saline is 60% as effective as morphine when the patient sees the doctor inject it).

If IE8 really is an improvement then I'll consider using it, but seeing how security is the biggest issue for me, I'm going to wait it out before my now-perfectly-clean comp suddenly gets infested again.

That "hanging" part is when the worms are crawling out of the internet and into your computer.

Could be, but unlikely. I'm just referring to when it takes up a bit of cpu to load the page and generally just freezes for a second or two, especially for the heavier sites (or when I'm multitasking)

I feel that once you go Firefox, it's hard to go back to anything else.
I actually used Netscape for over a year before I switched to Firefox. And even with IE's many changes, I would still stick with Firefox. IE has gotten better. I mean, it's USABLE now... which is a good sign. But I still would take firefox over IE. The big thing Firefox has: plugins. And YES, there are several plugins I use daily.

I just installed IE8 and had weird bugs on the FF forums, things like typing text was super delayed, couldn't position cursor where I wanted in the text box and margins not showing properly, etc... so I clicked on the "Emulate IE7" button and everything is fine for now.

So, what is it everyone is doing that requires the supreme security that only FF can provide?
