Honestly this doesn't even look all that special. Just the fact that they make a big deal out of no free to play and no leveling feels insanely refreshing to me. No non sense, just buy a game, have access to all its content. If they can pull that off, with a healthy launch and an open platform, then this could be a very good thing for the fps genre.

Yes, that's what I dislike about FPS today, all the level up bollocks. It isn't refreshing to me because I've not played anything other than TFC/FF for these reasons.

Just the idea of an arena fps with modernish graphics and people actually playing kinda interests me. This might even answer the question of can you sell this kind of game in 2014.

If they do a half way decent marketing job and have a healthy release then I think it could sell pretty well. But even then idk, maybe the market is really just too saturated. I kind of have a hard time imagining anything but a super mainstream triple A title raking in any substantial player amounts.

One thing I think is crucial is none of this early access play since alpha bullshit. I think that type of stuff spreads a player base way too thin. There's the people who play from alpha and get burnt out by release, and the people who won't play till release who have less people to play with because of those who've burnt out or were turned off by something. It also kind of kills hype and thins out your word of mouth coverage to irrelevance when people are talking about a game potential up to or over a year before it's actually finished.

Keep it under wraps, slowly build up hype, if you're going to do beta testing keep them closed and relatively small up to shortly before launch. And then release it with a bang.

This reminds me a little bit of Nexuiz. People kinda jumped on it and it petered out. HOWEVER I will probably buy this game and try it out just in case I like it. Even if this game fails I hope they keep making arena shooters because I'm always open for more fast paced FPS shooters .

there has been many attempts to revive the fps arena style but they fail because the games were not polish or lack of good gameplay like nexuiz or rise of the triad

Let´s hope this is better =)

Yeah basically UT movement. It does look faster than UT, but I can't really tell I haven't played in a long time. But not really a fan.

Also the guns kind of look like garbage so far. For instance there's a flame thrower...With a MASSIVE looking spread on it. Legit looks like the noobiest flame thrower in any game. All in all, not impressed. I will play it to check it out though.

I'll give him a pass since English isn't his first language.

Though seeing that there isn't much in terms of strafe jumping is disappointing. Ah well.

His point was it isn't immediately obvious what walk would be useful for in a game where interactions initially appear to be based on fast movement and dodging. More specifically new or inexperienced might not understand extent to which sound cues affect competitive dueling.

The narrator made a bad joke. If you wait 7 seconds he corrects it and explains himself.

Why is walk a function in Quake CPMA? For the same reasons.

Except he then admits that crouch does basically the same job, and the reason to have both is "It just doesn't look as cool".

I wouldn't want to be ducking around a corner in an rpg fight.

But you would want to hit crouch to be a smaller target while mid-air against a railgun.

If you're falling mid-air in a rail fight you're doing it wrong.

Just watch Cypher, he knows how to e-sports duck:
