FF crashing problem.

Hi

I have a problem. i used to play FF 2.0 or 2.1 (don't remember), it played nice.

Then i upgraded to 2.3 and that's were all begun. The crashes, as soon i enter a server and i choose a team .... BSOD.

Some times i can jump twice before crashing.

At the time couse of RL issues i didn't think again about the game, now with 2.4 out i wanted to try it and same thing happens.
This only happens with FF.
TF2, TFC, CS, UT2 and other games Work fine.

I have removed the drivers and reinstall them, i have removes stuff (hardware) from the computer, i have tested the ram, psu, etc, everything is working fine.

Also unistalled and reinstalled FF.

Right now im going to change my graphic card with a Nvidia one to test, but i really doubt its the card.

My PC specs:

AMD Barton 2600+ with 1500Mb Ram
ATI 9600 XT 256Mb with ATI catalyst 9.3 (despite ati site saying driver version 9.8, after install says 9.3)

Something in FF is making my PC to crash directly to BSOD with no error on it, just says "windows was shutdows to prevent damage..." etc etc etc.

can someone help me please?

Thanks

*Update*

Changed the psu with a more powerful one, no change the game still crashes.
Change the drivers from 9.3 to 8.11 (official from card manufacture site), still crashes.
Tried the ngohq altered drivers (based on 7.3) and it worked, so my ATI card is fine, but with crappy fps (really, worse than with the nvidia card)
I've tried the game with the nvidia card (gf 6600) and latest nvidia drivers, it worked.

any one with some more ideas?

thanks

I have not tried that yet. i will, thank you for the idea.

Right now i was trying cat 8.1. This one cant even launch the game itself (TF2 included).

Was going to move to another cat driver.

Click the steamsupport link in my siggy. It's a diagnostic link that checks for conflicts with steam. But it really sounds like you might be having memory issues. So you might try turning off any unneeded processes before firing FF up.

thank you for the reply. did that thing on your sig, it pass on all the tests.

so far i was only able to play with ngohq altered drivers (based on 7.3 but crapy fps) and now with the own card drivers (from the CD, cat 5.8 )

8.1, 8.7, 8.10, 8.11, 8.12, 9.1, 9.3, 9.3.1, all crashed the game.

i will try other drivers (cat 6 and 7 family) ... but may be tomorrow, im tired right now.

thanks

Make sure you you del. the previous drivers properly as well, you don't want any old drivers stuck in your registry etc, and conflict. Maybe even use a video card driver cleaner, good place to get one of those programs is probably guru3d.com.
