Nothing is finalized yet, and there are at least two other elements we're going to introduce and test in the jump/speed/bhop area.

The reason it is different is, for example a 120% soft cap in FF equates to roughly 130-140% average speed when bhopping normally on an even surface. Remember there is no hard cap and 110% penalty so on average, 140% in FF isn't as far from TFC as you might think. Depending on how other variables are setup, this is the case at any rate.

Now, this still doesn't tell the entire story if we're comparing the speed of the game to TFC. In FF you can keep a significant amount of speed above the soft cap % over several jumps, given a strong enough initial impulse(off a conc or explosion etc).

In balancing all this, we're aiming to reduce the advantage that straight forward bhopping gives to players and their move speed. It should be obvious that moving off of an explosion gives the player a boost of speed for a brief period. The de facto advantage that players get from bhop will be reduced from TFC in order to better balance the learning curve and these new gameplay elements.

We're likely going to keep a small move speed increase across all classes as well. It seems to work ok at 5% over TFC speeds, which is what is currently in place in the beta.

If you're really that fucking dense, I was questioning the "THAT WOULD SUCK" bit. How do you know that without playing the mod?

The air acceleration and friction constants from TFC are the same(or very close to the same) in FF. You still gain a roughly equal amount of speed with one glide jump(or any other accelerating jump less efficient than a well executed glide) compared to TFC. You just won't keep that speed if you cease to glide/bhop and continue with regular jumps, if you're over the soft cap.

So basically, to keep high-end speed, you HAVE to keep curving, and if you go to straight jumping you reduce to ~140%?

Nothing is set in stone at all now. The limits currently setup in the beta are closer to 110%. It's an ongoing process that hopefully will.. become more finalized soon after further changes and testing.
