Brain + Robot arm = Awesome
The link
Monkeys control a robot arm with their thoughts Two monkeys with tiny sensors in their brains have learned to control a mechanical arm with just their thoughts, using it to reach for and grab food and even to adjust for the size and stickiness of morsels when necessary, scientists reported on Wednesday. The report, released online by the journal Nature, is the most striking demonstration to date of brain-machine interface technology. Scientists expect that technology will eventually allow people with spinal cord injuries and other paralyzing conditions to gain more control over their lives. .... Read the rest in the link up top. I think this is truly awesome. What are your thoughts? |

Don't mind him, hes's usually the one that says old for funny videos. That is pretty sweet though, I think it is neat that they can control mechanical arms, but what really interests me is the stuff that this will allow for in the future. This looks like it has the potential to mean mouseless video games and generally computer interaction as a whole.

Thing is though many military level technologies trickle down to the public sector. You know. Internet, GPS... machine guns...

It's always fun when technology approaches science fiction.
This (and SSCUJO) reminds me of Appleseed (and a lot of Shirow's stuff). One of the characters, Briareos, is mostly cybernetic: "[Briareos'] brain is augmented by an auxiliary brain that acts as an information processor, and is capable of handling information in a conceptual format rather than hard numerical data. His cybernetics controller, the Hecatonchires system, is named after the same 100 handed giants from Greek mythology. It is capable of controlling dozens of limbs or other cyborg bodies independently from one another, with no additional strain on the user."

But this shit is extremely old. Researchers have been using thoughts as methods of control for many years.
