wtf???

my explorer.exe isn't starting up on system start and when i manually exec it, it will show for like 5-10 seconds and then its gone... what can i do?

That's a bit rough....what AV and ASW programs do you have installed and in place? This is XP I assume?

Antivirus and anti-spyware. My first suspicion would be something that has killed or replaced a critical dll or executable. You can try using a restore point to chase this down...but that won't work if something has hosed a critical file...you'd have to try the rebuild function off the XP install disk...assuming that you don't have something infecting your system that's self-healing.

i ran avg, adaware and spybot.. yea thats my next thing... but i don't even have the cd..... my dads friend built this thing and gave us an illegal copy. ill have to borrow a friends

Boot into ubuntu live cd (or knoppix, what have you), backup data, reformat.
