Just in for a trip down memory lane

Hi all, randomly decided to stop in and check out the place I used to shit up with my dumbass 15 year old opinions.

Nice to see the site still has a bit of life in it, even if the mod itself never fully recovered from TF2.

My father would be very envious of you for having those arcade games. When I was a kid, he had an arcade setup he took from his old job working at an arcade (back when those existed). It had joysticks and buttons and you could open up the base and swap out these monstrous things that looked like motherboards, which had different games on them.

Dig Dug, Robotron, Battlezone, Elevator Action (not a porno), Missile Command... lots of names come to mind. It was a sad day when the old clunker finally died and we had to get rid of it.

I currently have 5 of them, the 4 pictured above, and this one:

Honestly, they aren't really THAT expensive. I only have around $500 invested in the hobby. I got a couple for free(actually, I traded labor for them), and the others, I just had good deals drop into my lap. I don't really have a lot of money to put into them, so I've done all the needed repairs on them myself.

If you think he'd be interested in getting some, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm on a collectors website, and they are generally happy to help out locals. Plus I can offer advice on where to find them, and what general prices to look for. Mainly, it's all about condition. You can find non-working cabinets cheap, and fix them yourself(which isn't as difficult as it sounds), or decent working ones for mid-range prices... all the way up to "fully restored" for premium prices.

If there's a bad side, it's that some people just don't realize the ACTUAL value of them. Some people think, "Well, it's old as shit, therefor it's worth a lot of money." Ummm..... no. Not really. There are exceptions to that, but they are few and far between.

The only downside to them, is that they're heavy as shit. Atari cabinets are easily in the 325-350lb range. I rather lucked out with Dig Dug, since it's a cocktail table. 100 less pounds to haul around.

I have keys to all of mine. The guy I bought my Dig Dug from gave me the wrong key, so I had to drill the lock out and put a new one on. It's okay, though.... locks are relatively cheap.

I haven't seen King of Kong, yet..... but it's on my list.

Yeah, I have locks on mine. I keep the keys right there. Mostly they are locked to keep the cats out. It's not like I have money in them or anything. Although, I will admit to "hiding" a few bucks in quarters in them.... in case of emergency.

When people come over to play(rare, but still), I don't charge anything. Super Pac-Man has a credit switch on the inside, Lunar Lander takes tokens, and Dig Dug has a credit switch mounted on the outside.

No worries, I miss that actually. Nowadays forums are super uptight about keeping everything on-topic and filtered. I've found the best threads are the ones that go completely off-topic.

They are still around, most of them are gaming communities for games that are unfortunately inactive or not very popular though :/
