The world is broken up into 4 nations- each representing an element. You have the Avatar who embodies all 4, and whose job is to keep the peace between the 4. Keep shit balanced, etc. The current Avatar aka The Last Airbender basically gets frozen in time for about 100 years, and all sorts of chaos ensues. The movie, and the show, is about Eng (the Avatar) mastering the other 3 elements and dealing with the crisis.

Good enough synapsis?

I LOVE this cartoon, and am extremely disappointed that M. Knight Shyamalan is making this...I hate him with a passion I can't describe ever since I sat through every second or The Village thinking "something good is going to happen..."

I don't doubt that it will stay relatively true to the series, I'm just concerned he will somehow fuck it up b/c he is himself and tends to do that kind of shit.

Imo. The easiest way to make this suck is to try and cram too much into one movie. From the scenes I saw- it should be ending with the water book.

Really? I enjoyed The Village. Huge twist at the end, surprised the hell outa me. I thought it was a great movie. Plus, he's made other great films like 6th sense and unbreakable. I don't have a doubt this movie will be good.

More importantly though, the problems you all have with these movies is their writing not their directing. M Knight did write them, but if you analyzed his camera angles and the composition involved with the way the story was told you would realize he actually is a good director. He knows how to create a strong feeling with the camera lens. The actors control everything else, and the script influences that. Since M Knight didn't write the story, and he enjoys the show himself I'm sure that any script adaptation would be more focused on recreating the same enjoyment rather than putting in some stupid twist at the end. He is more than capable of making the movie very good. While I'm not ready to be excited for it, it does have my attention and I have no reason yet to think it will be a bad movie.
