Sabotaging Turrets

I'm confused about the concept of sabotaging turrets. What happens when the bar fills? What happens when you click "sabotage sentry"? I want the turret to shoot its team, but sometimes it blows up! Clarification is greatly appreciated.

When the bar fills up you have the ability to turn the turret on it's team. Just open the menu and click the button

Oh so nothing happens when the bar fills up?
(And how come the sentry explodes after I sabotage it but I gain just one kill?)

No...when the bar is full, it disappears...but it is then that you can actually turn the gun on it's team. The effect lasts a certain SHORT time, afterwhich the Sentry explodes. If there are no team mates of the SG in range, it won't shoot at anyone. Players on YOUR team(the spy who tampered with it) can run past it freely once the Sabotage has been issued by you.

How long does it last? My sentry explodes only after 10 seconds.

The gun is only supposed to shoot for a total of 10 seconds and/or stand idle before you activate sabotage from the menu for a total of 2 minutes.

What happens is that when the bar fills up you can just leave. The enemy engineer can upgrade the SG or whatever and you can use the menu (as you know) to initiate the sabotage at any time from anywhere as long as you don't die first. Its great when you don't want to make it obvious that you just hacked the SG.

As for cloaking and trying to sabotage the gun, you can't. Any enemy SG will shoot you when you are cloaked even if you have an enemy disguise, it has nothing to do with teammates shooting you.

When a SG is sabotaged, it can not be detonated or dismantled.

Hmm, I could have sworn that (on several occasions) mere moments after I sabotaged an SG it blew up in my face even when nobody was around to shoot it... oh well, I also edited it out of my original post in case somebody reads it later.

when you "Activate" the sabotage it effectively becomes a gun on your team and will shoot any enemies in range. Regardless of whether it sees enemies or not it will explode after ..5 or 10 seconds I forget.

Idle means that it is not activated. It is under the spy's control for 2 minutes. If it is never activated, it must be sabotaged again. Once activated, it only turns on the other team for 10 seconds and then explodes.

Bleh my grammar went right down the tubes last night Sorry for the confusion about the SG remaining idle: it is 2 minutes after you fill the bar but before you activate the sabotage (as stated by others)

If anyone is still confused, I'll attempt to clarify:

Sabotaging has two "states" (three if you count not sabotaged):
1. Sabotaged
How to do it: Look at an enemy SG while standing next to it until the bar fills up (be disgused but NOT cloaked -- SGs can detect cloaks)
The SG is then "sabotaged" until either:
A. Two minutes expire
B. You die

While the SG is in this state, the SG behaves as normal, except that it fires less accurately.
Remember that there is no limit to the number of SGs you can sabotage. However, if you can't sabotage an SG, it's possible a teammate has already done so -- you can't "override" his sabotage.

2. "Activated" Sabotage
How to do it: Whenever you are ready, you can use your right-click menu to "Sabotage SG" -- this will activate ALL the sabotages you have placed (assuming they have not expired because of A or B above)

Once you have done this, all the SGs you have sabotaged will actively shoot your enemies during a period of 10 seconds. 10 seconds after you have issued the sabotage command, all the SGs will blow up.
