Infraction Rule Suggestion. Serious Business.

For anyone claiming that "FF is dead." for any reason or excuse what-so-ever, should get an infraction on the forums. Those words alone pretty much tell new players "This game isn't worth it if there's no one playing it," before they even notice that there is 2/3 actual servers that have people playing them plus 2 pickup servers for Euro and US. And if people are playing the game every day then, I'm sorry, but this game is very much alive.

A small community with the potential to grow. Keep your doubts, but I'm starting to notice new players in everyday since the patch.

I think it rather ironic that the people who claim FF is dead, still come here and post.

The Forum Admins will have a discussion about this, I'll see to it, if no one has brought it up in the Admin section yet.

That's not a bad idea. I also think people who criticize the mod non-constructively should get an infraction.

I think it's about time for us to start getting serious about getting some new players to start sticking around, and if people are bitching every few threads, how's that going to look to someone new? Not a good first impression if you ask me.

I guess this sounds like blasphemy here, but how about civil discourse while we're at it? I noticed this comment in another thread about engineer buildables by the very same person proposing the infraction rule:

I think the only person who's claimed FF is dead is Bridget, who is currently banned anyway. If you're really trying to crack down on unconstructive commentary, I'm kind of amazed stuff like this is still the norm.

now to the other point you remember the law that was probably passed in your state (most likely.) about banning cell phones use in cars. well you see it seems all goodie goodie except there is no evidence that a substantial amount of car crashes happen because of using cell phones... in otherwards its not really endangering society just people making useless laws kinda like this new rule you want inforced on the forums.

one thsi is already agiasnt the rules to do this anyways and heres why.

as you read it is trolling which to my knowledge can be inforced hear on teh forums. also it its unconstructive, stupid flat out wrong so why make a speciall rule when you already have one for it. spam, trolling and off topic

So I could print made up obituaries of real people and claim their families should chill out and grow up?

Something being dead is a statement of fact; it's not an opinion. FF is not dead, as it is still being worked on. It's as simple as that. As Elmo said, saying FF is dead is essentially trolling, and it'd probably be best to treat it as such.

A video game being dead is nothing like an actual person being dead, that shouldn't need to be explained........

The allegations of FF being dead is mostly directed toward it's community not its development. 1 server with an average of 10 active players at any one time is, believe it or not, considered dead by most people. The fact that there's a thread seeking to find out how to keep new players speaks for this fact alone.

And besides, you're treating it as if every other thread is an "FF is dead" one and will lead to the utter demise of this mod, which just simply isn't true.

This game has been declared dead ever since it was born. Opinions don't affect us, but (in)action does. You can come in here and declare FF dead, but if you then join a server and play for an hour, you're OK in my book.

Fortress Forever is far from dead in my opinion, we have a dedicated community, which is something a lot of other mods don't have, and I've noticed since 2.42+ that throughout days and nights now servers are up with people playing, moreso than previously.

And I have noticed a lot of new names, from somewhere, people are learning about FF and playing it. Sometimes you can join a populated server and find a (1), (2) and (3) WhenFFWillOut playing, which is refreshing.

A dead mod is a mod that has no players, and doesn't even manage to fill a server at the peak time for US players. Mods like Eternal Silence, Resistance and Liberation and Source Forts. Which in the past have all had communities, but they have broken down and they are now dormant mods whenever I have checked, but the FF community is strong, and plenty of people still play alongside me daily who I remember from years ago when FF was young. And new faces are always emerging.

So whatever people say about this mod, as long as we still fill servers, organize pickups, and have people enjoying what FF has to offer, it is far from dead.
