I remember getting by without knowing how to bunnyhop, with no experience, and a 56k modem. I still competed in silver clans and did fine. Try doing that now.

devs are 110% in favor of bunny hopping. n00bs are going to cry CHEATER just like in TFC. i saw many n00bs leave TFC just because of bhop. i myself love the bhop...it's fast and effective. |

Bhop's gonna be taught within the game. Not really a problem.

don't take offence guy, it was primarily a stab at the suggested correlation between post counts and beta testing worthiness, which I'm quite sure didn't come from your mouth (or fingers). maybe I should be more direct but subtlety is so much more fun, though follow up posts kind of ruin it.
so yeahs like, how about dat trimpin'. |

the reason tfc died was because the skill curve was way too high and the skills were too alien for newbies to learn (bunnyhopping, concing...) Look at CS, its probably more complex than TFC but it worked fine because there were no "hidden" skills and if a newbie got killed they could see that the player was just aiming better or prefiring or whatever

Then again CS is so utterly shit because it's so plain and boring for the more demanding players, then we get back to the age old debate of whether complex games either improve lastability of a game OR send newbies packing before they have a chance.

oh please....
Take a newb at both games and ask him which game seems more complex... I'm not saying CS doesn't have nifty hidden things to learn too, but from the eye of a newb, TF is more complex. That's what we're talking about here. |

9 classes vs 1 class
Hardly comparable is it? |

you can't really compare the two in terms of classes. fortress games have fixed sets of weapons and armor etc, where CS lets you choose your own (money dependent)

You quickly realise that you better buy the better guns if you want to win. So in reality, the selection of gun is pretty narrow.

honestly, team fortress isnt THAT complex, it's just that all the complexity comes from the skills that you can't learn easily. |
