ff_murderball2
I'm working on Murderball_Tournament which is a copy of the idea of the original murderball.. expanding the base by 1 story and adding more rooms + a teleporter instead of an elevator. The base objective is to run to the center of the map, and grab the bouncing ball and run back to your base and hold onto it as long as possible while 3 other teams are trying to invade your base and kill you.
(Here's what the original murderball looked like) http://www.frag51.net/mb2/Reference.JPG http://www.frag51.net/mb2/Reference2.JPG http://www.frag51.net/mb2/Reference3.JPG I need some opinions on what I should add to this map. (I haven't finnished anything but the buildings, the terrain and mountains are not implemented yet.) The building's front looks really "PLAIN" and well.. ugly.. any advice to make it look sexy? Here are some screenshots.. http://www.frag51.net/mb2/1.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/2.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/3.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/4.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/5.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/6.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/7.png http://www.frag51.net/mb2/8.png Last edited by o_richardo; 09-15-2006 at 07:44 PM. |

So will the teleporter be the one that was in the wall and you just jumped into it and it took you to the ball respawn spot?

Keep practicing man. It's fine if you want to practice building murderball2 but don't release your practice map like if it was the real murderball remake. It would probably make some ppl mad and that's it.
Hint: find a tutorial on displacements and read it! |

Shadowfox: nah, there were elevators in the bases and instead of puting elevators.. I just added teleporters that take you straight up to the top level. and vice versa... Last edited by o_richardo; 09-15-2006 at 07:20 PM. |

Get out a pencil and paper and sketch some designs. Look at architecture in the world. Look at sci fi structures. Think of interesting geometric shapes. Look around you when you're walking about -- you might see something that is totally unrelated to something you're making, but it may have a shape or element that would lend itself to what you're building.
Also, with lighting, less is more. Your lighting is terribly messy. The source engine is much more happy with a couple of larger, bright lights in big areas, with accenting being provided by smaller lights. Look at the sdk maps like dm_lockdown to see what I mean. |

Ok hm nevermind then. It's just that... from the look of these displacements http://www.frag51.net/mb2/6.png it doesn't look like you know how to use them correctly. It's in 3 sections, why? Anyways, to answer your question. I would go with a jungle style for murderball but that's probably way too complicated to do right now as there is no good texture available to do jungle properly. So just go with a sci-fi look. |

I like to see remakes in greater quality. IMO, this looks like a different style of murderball for the HL1 engine and is in equal or less quality than the original.
I would LOVE to see a remake but, again, I would like to see it with the HL2 engine flare. Keep up the work though man. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Eventually you will be able to hang with the big boys in the mapping world |

it looks good, and I know that you c\havn't worked on lighting yet (as that is one of the last things to do). Honestly I have no idea what to put on the front of the building.
