Getting started with the new hammer, few questons !

I've just downloaded the Source SDK and im looking forward to mapping for Halflife 2 but im having a few problems.

The editor for Halflife 2 seems to run very slow and destroys my comp, whist in the past with hammer for the original halife i had no problems at all.

was wonding if anyone else has had this problem. I think its somthing to do with settings, could anyone who has had sucess with mapping for hl2 post there settings please?

thanks

Make sure you're not currently downloading any content VIA steam, as in my experience that slows down Hammer quite a bit.

You can also turn down the max number of undo's.

There's something about dumping the textures... because it takes forever to load them all up. I'm not exactly sure how to do this, so maybe someone else can help.

Sometimes, hammer is choppy, but after I compile a map, boot up the game, then quit out and return to hammer it's zooming along smoothly. Does entering HL2 then quitting effect how hammer performs?
