Blackfriday ads (and cyber monday sales too)
While virtually useless to me because of how far from the boarder I am, I figured I would pass on this site to all you americans and anyone else that happens to be in or near the US.
http://bfads.net I have known of this site for a while, it collects all the ads for all the blackfriday sales that are going to be. Its a great way to plan on what you want to get a little sooner. |

Black Friday sales these days are a joke because EVERYONE and their 2nd cousin knows about it.

I think the point is that now all the ads are in one place so you can plan the places to stand in line at to punch a 40 year old man in the face over an Elmo stuffed animal, instead of having to sort through a bunch of newspaper ads. Also, the site has a nifty "You should buy it now, it'll be more expensive on Black Friday" notifier.
Also, what's the point of having a sale no one knows about? Isn't the goal of a sale to get people to come into your store, get the one thing they're looking for and about 5 other things they see because they're shiny and on endcaps at an increased price? ya I've know about blackfriday sales for years and years and I've never set foot in the US. I've seen ads for it on TV for years and years.
Why have a sale if no one knows about it? The site that I posted just gathers everything in one place so that you can plan on what you want to get or see if there is anything you want. I was looking through them myself and seen a few good deals. If I wanted a console, they have an xbox elite 120gig console with 6 games at best buy (I think) for 300. Thats not a bad deal. Nearly every place that sells electronics has 4gig SD cards/microsd card and flash drives on for 10 bucks. radioshack I think it was had 8 gig cards on for 15 bucks and for the most part in most of the stores it was Sandisc that they are selling. If I could afford it, I would get someone down there to get me like 1 or 2 of each size and kind. My digital camera can take upto 4 gig for SD card, and one of the phones I was looking at can take either a 4gig or 8gig microsd card. And just having one or two 4 gig flash drive around would be nice so that I could keep all the "must have" stuff backed up if anything happens to my system. But I can wait till boxing day/week sales locally when stuff like that should come on sale at basically the same prices. |

Lowes usually has some good black friday sales. Tools, flashlights, pocket knives, muti-tools,,,, are good gifts for just about everyone.
In 2008 Lowes had maglight 3-D cell LED flashlights for 66% off. Regular priced at around $30, lowes had them for like $10 - $13. I have not seen any of the Lowes ads yet to see what they are going to have on sale. Last edited by ~kev~; 11-16-2009 at 07:26 PM. |

I ventured out at 5 am last years to get a killer deal on an TV. They were sold out before the line got half way around the building. FBF.

If you plan on going, DO NOT plan on getting 1 or 2 items. There's nothing like the feeling of getting to the shelf where your item should be but some jackass got to it first. Waiting in line for how long? yeah... Get a list of 15 - 20 items you could probably use/sell/give as gifts, and stick to one store, like Best Buy or Sears or some shit.
Also, try going out of your way and visit a less popular store that might not get as much people in it. And remember, safety first. There were people killed last year I think from being stomped to death. Getting $50 off on a product is not worth killing someone for or getting hurt yourself. |

I don't know much about in the US, but here in Nova Scotia they usually have security guards which only allow so many in at a time. You get caught pushing and shoving you get ejected from the store. If you try to make a fuss about it you get the cops called on you.
Every event like this I have been to has been pretty orderly. There was one a few years ago that the store was a little too packed with people and it was really hard to move around, they solve that by less in less people at a time. For some items they even handed out tickets in the lineup so that they didn't have to rush in to get it. After a certain time if there was any left it was first come first served. A few of the stores didn't have all their checkouts open, which was stupid just because of the number of people there, but its gotten better. My biggest problem is that for some of the stores I want to goto during boxing day sales, they are not within walking distance of me anymore. And I agree, do with a list of things you want just in case the 1 or 2 items you actually want are sold out already. |

Never, NEVER stand between an American and a cheap widescreen TV on black friday. It would be safer to put on a Yamulka and walk down the main street in Tehran screaming "FUCK ALLAH!!!"

^^^^^ + 1 to that.
The attention that people put on material possessions makes me sick. Its nice to have "stuff" - but its better to have your loved ones around for the holidays. I would give almost anything to go back and have one more day with my grandfather and grandmother, just one more thanksgiving or christmas and tell them how much I miss them. |
