If you're going to bench, the weight is fine, just maintain strict form. If people laugh at you, tell them to shut the fuck up and go deadlift/do squats. I'm sure people don't often bench twice their own bodyweight the first time they bench.

I don't know what battery is drinking but I'd advise everyone else not to drink it.

I think we are all forgetting that being skinny is not acceptable the way it was 40 years ago.

Being able to bench 155 lbs is barely acceptable, imo, since you can bench at least your own weight. But since you are underweight, you need to increase your weight to 165, and be able to bench that much. Nothing less than that is acceptable for a 20 year old male. Just remember you are not in high school anymore. Expectation is higher for males older than 20. They have more experience in weight training, and have had more time to gain muscles. It's fair to expect much better performance from them.

Now, you say you were picked on by elitists? You are speaking as if you are the victim here! Those are not elitists. They are dedicated people who hit the gym everyday. They are keen on shaping the social environment in the gym. Just imaging you are a professional football player in NFL. How about put you in the same training area as some high school football players? Not a very motivating setting is it? Look, if I spend 5 days a week in a gym, and training for top shape, I DO NOT want to see some wimp in my gym! Nothing personal, but I prefer to meet decent weight lifters in my gym, so we can motivate each other!

If people laugh at you, that's a signal that you don't fit in. Do everyone a favor and move to another gym, and train until you get bigger. Once you have gotten a more decent look, you can return to the gym. You will be more welcomed.
Small penis alert!

I could pick apart his post more, but really, that's all that needs to be said.

It's the same elitist nonsense we see in PC gaming. What they have in common is that only a genuine dick laughs at someone trying to do better...regardless of how quickly they improve.

Clearly, many of you forgot to read between the line. When someone has doubt about benching his own weight is acceptable, he is likely to care about his performance in training and his physical appearance. Why else would he ask?

And all you can reply is, "don't worry about being skinny", or "focus on academics". May be you don't care, but this guy may!

And I can understand you want to motivate this guy. But for goodness' sake, do you always have to follow the formula "Oh, you are doing just fine, I can't even do as well as you. Don't worry."...
How about someone new, like, "I am gonna be honest with you. If you don't plan for retirement, you may be flipping burgers when you are 70 year old"

And why the hell are we talking about genetics here? There is nothing genetics about being able to bench press less than 120% of your own weight. Yes, people with better genes needs minimal work to get to 120%. But for the vast majority of males, 120% is a goal well within their physical potential. If you are fat, you may need to decrease your fat weight and work up muscles. If you are skinny, you only need to gain muscles. You won't do 120% overnight, but you will get it after at most 3-4 years of amateur weight training (with proper strategies). Genetics may play a significant role when we are talking about 130% or above. You may actually need certain genes, shorter arms, or certain skeletal structure to pull it off. There is nothing about genetics about a 152 pound guy benching 155 pounds x 10. He should be able to bench 175 pounds x 10 if he fully realizes his potential.

I live a matter of hours from you. Ever been to one of the small towns in the 500 mile vicinity?

Don't focus purely on bench pressing, diversify. When I used to go to the gym, I had done all upper body, 3 days then a day of lower body, as I was looking at the time for a lean cut, unfortunately I stopped going lol. I have t go back.

Exactly, and I live on the outskirt's of one.

Any woman who will only judge a man based on something such as how much they can rep or max is not someone you want to spend time with. One of my closer female friends always got herself into painful relationships because she went out with guys for all the wrong reasons.

If a woman is worth spending any time at all with, she will be interested in your personality, what you enjoy, and similar interests. Plus, if you can listen to them ramble on about stuff and give them lots of sympathy, you get many more bonus points. But that's if you want to be stuck in the friends zone. If you're out for sex, then go ahead and start acting tough and macho, or show off your money. You'll find plenty of sluts willing to fuck you if you take them shopping, or give them a ride on your motorcycle.

Now if you're seeking acceptance of peers, then you need to re-evaluate them. If your friends won't accept you if you can't bench the same that they can, they're not friends. They're posers who will leave you in the dust when you need help the most. Refer to this music video.

If you just happen to feel insecure about how much you're repping, start looking at what you really have going for you. Do what you're comfortable doing, be happy with what you've got.

Only? Can't say I've ever set foot in a weights room (I'd rather do cardio or sports), but lifting your own weight sounds pretty damn reasonable to me.

You mean "fuckwits". What kind of asshole laughs at someone trying to improve themself? Do you really give a shit what these dickless wonders think?

Considered acceptable by whom? Obviously it's not acceptable to the "fuckwits". I think lifting your own body weight is more than acceptable. Acceptable to the ladies? Well, some of them will find that not muscular enough; some will find it too muscular; some won't care at all either way; and some will find it just right.

The only person's opinion that really matters here is your own. If you're happy with your body, then be happy. If you're not, then continue working to bulk up. What more needs to be said?
