Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome
So, this is where I start reminisce about the good ole days where games like Diablo II, or Metal Warriors(snes) were popular. First of all, who has played this game? This was the first game I ever played on my parents old 800mh Pentium III, and I became addicted to it very quickly. I wasn't the kind of person to cheat, so I worked my way through so many campaigns it was unbelievable... Just visiting the ole microsoft AOE site brought back those fond memories of building my own first civilization and pwning enemies left and right... The midi music was enough to bring me back. Alas, I can still only dl the demo, but torrents fix that problem quickly.
Anyone have any thoughts or awesome stories about this game? |

I miss good epic games like that. Games that span many ages over hundreds of years are great. Hell, thousands of years is great as well. I didn't like 2 as much as 1 due to the nature of it, however, I liked the civ selection more.
Of the three AOE's, I enjoy 3 the most. However, I wish it spanned up to early WWI (pre-tank). The 300 year span of AOE3 doesn't seem like very much compared to the others.

AoE III...
Every screenful of territory I'd level with my 300 siege weapon army I'd place cannon towers over the area to ensure that no villagers would build over my turf. Every time a villager would run around there you'd see these round shadows passing by, then the villager would get rained on by balls of iron. |

I'm a whore for the French because of two forts in AoE III... but I have recently be going for the Ottomans. Those Great Bombards are just so much more effective than a fort if you put them in your walls...
More importantly, Ottoman factories produce Great Bombards! My friend and I can do 2v3 against computer on Moderate. We're going to try 2v4 sometime soon, but on Carribean where we have time to build up D before getting rushed. S=

I remember my friend and I both entered a tournament (well, he did) when we were 16. 10 minutes into the first round, we had a tower, half a wall, and like 6 villagers when 40 Marmalukes run into our village and burn it down (AoE II).

Yeah, I even played on my dads shitty laptop, which had dialup.
Sorry for reminding, ah good times. Now it's just Igzones, and that site sucks. When I joined there, it had a major bug, it innocently banned lots of people for having "cheats running in the background". What the hell..?

AoE II was awesome. I played a few games of it with a buddy of mine a few days ago, actually. Civ4 is pretty fun too (though, Civ2 is probably the best of the series) I'm personally looking forward to Civilization Revolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_Revolution
