How are people joining 2.10 servers?
I've been noticing an FF 2.1 server with people in it, yet when I try to join it, it says one of the following:
1. You don't have (new mapname here) 2. Your map is different from the server's or 3. Your class tables are different. So what's going on? |

The people you've seen playing in the 2.1 server are devs or beta testers only. You can't join the server because you don't have the 2.1 client files yet because they haven't been released to the public yet. They are going to be released later today.

Yeah, a couple people have 2.1 to make sure everything's working correctly. You can't join 2.1 servers until you have the 2.1 client, which is coming soon.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is wrong with the Linux build?
BTW, thanks for working on this both for the past few months and this Friday; I really appreciate all of the hard work, etc. |

It keeps crashing because it's a fucking bitch to compile correctly and we can't get it to work thanks to an assortment of outrageous setbacks.

Yeah, the beta guys have been playing on passworded 2.1 servers for about a week testing RC.
Scuzzy tested the 2.1 server installer for us, and in the process a lua bug was found in Dropdown. The fix was easier to test with a large group of people so a few OT people got lucky and got the link a few hours early. Edit: Honestly, i'm surprised this was only posted about today. Since there was servers with 2.1 in the name before now. |

Linux rocks, in the right hands. Porting windows programs over can be a bitch though, because, well, most windows programs use the windows api, which is tied to the windows platform. Wine tries to get around it, and works to a degree (I can play FF on linux, as well as many other hl2 mods) but it's not perfect. Moving programs from windows-specific to a more portable api set can be very time consuming and difficult. So I can see why devs of a windows based game might not like it.

From the sounds of it, they're having problems linking a shared library (linux speak for DLL) called server_i486.so. The problem is, I bet, a compiler incompatibility (something that happens on windows too, sometimes).
Is this library closed source? If not, then I might be able to help fix it. Otherwise, you guys will have to install the version of gcc server_i486.so was compiled with, and compile/link your program with that version. Unless this isn't the problem, of course. |

Originally it was a compile problem, it was decided that they could get it fixed in 2 weeks so the release date was announced. When it got fixed a while before the release date, a crashing problem was found.
