Interesting. I get a $20 walmart gift card for preordering my copy. I'll use that to pick up COD World at War for half price.

Eh, I'll be staying away from MW2... I'll just pick up CoD4 and W@W since I haven't done so yet.

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings. bahahahahah. cancelled my preorder. |

A few companies find this game as some sort of revolution as it's basicly the first FPS to remove dedicated servers. Companies are saying that "servers are the bain of PC gaming."
I've always found that dedicated servers are a great SAVE for the companies. Rather then having to manage servers and bandwidth, you let players run their own servers. While this might be bad if users don't set up servers, they always do. In fact, even games with few to no players still have servers running for those who want to play. Dedicated servers also provide dedicated bandwidth. This lets more people play on a dedicated server then a p2p style server (which MW2 seems to be implementing). This is another "anti-piracy" measure. But pirates always win anyways. The only people that lose are the legit players. |

This is more of a move to consoles than it is about preventing piracy.

I've never read the stats, but do fps's like this make more money on consoles or PC's, if they were intended to be played on both? COD4 for example.

I believe its the fact that they cost less to make on the console because its a known set of hardware so you don't have to test anything else and the fact that they can charge more for it out the door, claiming its "harder" and "more expensive" to make a game for a console.
How many times have you seen a new game for both pc and a console and the console is more expensive? How many times have you seen it the other way around? |

Console games are more expensive because they need to pay the rights to print the disks. It uses Nintendo, Sony, or MS's proprietary technology.
I don't think PC games are harder to make... Now a days most titles like this are simple ports. While CoD4 was written as a PC game (lots of graphical options), most ports you can't change much because they make the single graphic set for the consoles. If you want higher or lower graphics, your SOL. |

It's about money.
With these changes they can: Control the life of the game, kill the community off sooner and replace it with their latest creation. They can wait less time between sequels and make even more money. Control the content within the game, kill the modding community and make way for their 'premium' downloadable content where they can sell five maps they cut from the original game as newly created special maps and morons will buy them for £5/$5 - more money. Put less effort into the game, they almost certainly develop it for the 360 first and port it to the other two. These changes allow them to tailor the game to the 360 and not have to customise anything in order to release it on other platforms. Control the playerbase, they probably have a couple of idiots who actually think they lost lots of money due to 'piracy' on MW, something which is a bit stupid for a game that was primarily a multiplayer game more than anything else. They probably have that same paranoid fear that ActiBlizz has, lots of nasty pirates playing their beloved game via VPN's and never having to buy the game (although they wont due to no money). Reduce the server capacity, this is purely because the game will run on peer 2 peer technology and no one wants to play 16v16 on peer 2 peer, although personally I can't think why anyone would want to play anything more than 4v4 via P2P either. Saying all that I still can't understand why those morons at IW made all these changes if they really cared about the quality of their product and how widespread and popular it can be. It's all about money. Oh and anyone buying it for their console instead of the PC so they still get to play the game and avoid feeling like a dick for not boycotting it is also a moron since they are still handing over the cash to these people and they are buying an FPS game for a console, which in itself is moronic. Funny how everyone has also forgotten how they raised the RRP for the game substantially, maybe that's why they released all this PC related nonsense, it certainly took the heat off them about raising the price. |

I've been playing the original since last October, no issues except random shit. Now, with the GOTY, it is guaranteed to crash every 20-30 mins, gonna lock up for 5 minutes every so often in that time, especially bad when you change zones often. I get the feeling its AI related, it happens when I'm in an area that requires lots of interaction or there is NPC vs NPC combat.
