Okay, not fully until Jan 2012, but phones should start shipping with the new chargers yet this year.

Bet Sony don't like that since they are obsessed with putting proprietary connectors on virtually every piece of hardware they make, including their phones. Hopefully this is at least a step towards the end of that nonsense.
