Torchlight
Has anyone gotten this game yet?
http://www.torchlightgame.com/ Some of the reviews I've read are gushing with praise... Done by the guys who did Diablo, Diablo 2, Fate, and Mythos. It can even run on a netbook. And it's PC only, $19.95. It's available from Steam as well as other d/l sites. Comments/suggestions/reviews? Last edited by SomeOldGuy; 10-28-2009 at 08:19 PM. |

Not interested in buying a tech demo of a free-to-play MMO.

It's very reminiscent of Diablo
That's Diablo1, not 2.
Graphics are obviously much better. It's alot of fun for a dungeon romp hack-n-slash game. I tried Fate and quickly got bored but Torchlight is different and alot more fun IMO. There are 3 different side quest types which all seem to continually update depending what dungeon level you are on. first type is the generic "Beat big bad meanie on whatever dungeon level you are currently on. Second type is "Go find me such and such magic gem on whatever dungeon level you are on. Third is a little different in that you take a seperate portal to a locked out dungeon location and have to find some item. There is also a main quest which can take up to 30 hours or so to complete depending on the ammount of side quests you take. Once you complete the main dungeon there is supposed to be another dungeon with infinite levels (over 2 billion) so you can hack and slash your day away with nary a care about the game ending on you. I tried the demo and ended up buying it and so far it's been alot of fun. I imagine it will get boring at some point because it is very repetative but the loot drops keep you going because the magic items fall quite frequently and you can even try to enchant them further from a vendor in town (you also run the risk of him stripping all magic attributes from the item). Bottom line: If you liked Diablo, you'll like Torchlight. -Icculus |

Diablo cost me a girlfriend. So I am not touching this demonic siren the hides behind the name Torchlight.

I would have bought 4 copies of this but, because it lacks multiplayer, I just can't be bothered. A game like that is just so much better with friends, even if you're just going to be trading items.

lol. I guess I can spare a wife now too.
---- Oh wait, no multiplay? bah. That still looks wicked cool though. If it was xbox with 2 player on screen co-op like Baldurs Gate I would buy it right now.

Spent so many hours doing split screen Diablo on the PS1. Actually, I don't remember if it even split the screen, lol.

I do remember that was my first encounter with duping, we just dumped gold onto the ground, the other player picked it up and saved. Made getting upgrades a shitload easier.

Well, a mix of D1 and D2. It's a good mix in my opinion.
Yeah, I downloaded it. I'm a terrible person. Except that I've bought it after I downloaded it. That makes me one of the good guys. Right? Please say yes.

Pretty fun game. Really eats up time if you've got nothing to do and want to get in to a good dungeon crawler. The story is a bit shallow so far...I'm about half way through the game, but it's still a lot of fun.

No multi-player? Did we go through a time warp or something? This is 2009, not 1989.
Even diablo 1 had multiplayer, but for some reason torchlight does not? |

They made it(Torchlight) in 11 months, they didn't have the development window to add a multi-player aspect to the game. They are working on an MMORPG AFAIK...but don't quote me on that.
