MOAR POWA
Supply stuff.
My Power Supply is acting a bit strange. It has two fans, an internal one and an external one. The External one is not spinning anymore, and my power supply gets crazy hot over time. Like, burn your goddamned hand hot. Since this is, ya know, the closest thing I have to a profession, I know two universal truths about this matter: 1) Do not ever open a fucking power supply. 2) Heat + Power Supply OR Anything In Your Goddamned Computer = Bad I bought it... oh, less than a year ago. It is by a good company, Ultra, and the PS has served me faithfully up until this point. From what I can find on the net, the problem might be that the fan is stuck because of dust. I am, of course, going to vacuum the hell out of the thing and see if that works, but if it does not should I call in my warranty? Has anyone here ever experienced something similar? I can probably figure this out myself, but even in my work I like to check with a few people who are also in the field when I come to a problem I have not seen before.

Well now the fans have started up again of their own accord.
...and now they just stopped again.

Thanks for being no help whatsoever.
As for you, Ihmhi, have you tried cleaning the shit out of it yet? With its starting/stopping it's quite possible that there's dust clogging the motors. If all else fails, try poking at it with a the plastic insert in a shitty pen to see if it starts up. It's also possible that you might be fucked. |

Yeah, my dad is going to get the air compressor and blow the thing out. Disconnected from the comp, of course.

if that doesnt work. some ps use a little 2 pin quick connect, you could easily splice into..even if its soldered you could still unscrew the bad fan and cut the wires and splice into them..just be careful what you touch, ive never been shocked but i have heard from a few who have and it isnt pleasant.
of course this is only if your warrenty has expired..for some reason i think ultra only has a 90 day..i have an ultra ps in my media center pc..but i may be wrong about the time limit. |
