Sony's Blu-Ray demo - faked?
from Gearlog story
According to this report, Sony was supposed to be demoing "House of Flying Daggers" on a Blu-Ray Vaio... but it turns out it was HD content on a DVD+R. Not sure if true, but if it is... Sony PR goof #233. |

Not just PS FT but DRM and there's a number of other bad decisions Sony has made in the last 6 years that make me say that.

Hardly see how Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are supposed to be so compelling when most of us can't afford tvs that do justice to regular anamorphic dvds. And if you do have such a television... if it doesn't have the right connectors you still won't be able to play Blu-Ray etc. on it thanks to the horrid DRM shit the new players will be crippled with.

HD-DVD will own blueray, for one reason mostly, that there are HD-TVs an HD-DVDs, this will mean the noob wil0l go for the thing that says HD.

I think these formats may have more of an appeal as storage media. 25 gigs on a single disc, that sounds like a great way to back up an image of my computer and keep it in a safe place. While Blu-Ray is driving up the cost of the PS3 now it'll probably be worth it in the long run for games. It'll allow for things like multiple games on 1 disc or even more detailed games in the future.

If you read slashdot, they were showing a SIDE BY SIDE of DVD vs BLU-RAY. They poped the one playing the DVD and took the shot. So basicly they WERE showing a Blu-Ray, but they poped the other drive.

One thing will decide which standard will be successful: US porn.
The US spends $10billion a year on porn, and as such the industry has a massive say in what works and what doesn't. Whichever standard they choose to use will get a massive, instant backing. DVD was adopted so fast partly because of this industry's adoption of the standard. While other countries (obviously) have porn industries, only the US has enough people who are rich and joyless to really make a difference in this area. |

The only answer that matters is the dual format war will only result in a shitty deal for consumers. And yeah.. It's gonna be a bit harder to copy the new discs..

IT was like this when vhs came and shit to.
theres always about 8 formats who fight to become the one and only, then they get replaced longer on. the one which is most simple and has a fat pr budget will win, dont remember mini disc and such? :P who uses them now? |

I guess none of you bothered to read some of the comments on the article. The guy's a dumbass, desperate for a good article. There were 2 identical computers at the showing, the one on the left was running the dvd pictured, the one on the right was showing blue-ray quality. It was a comparison, and if you look at notebookreview.com they have pictures of this very same event showing the proof. Dont get all "omgz sony is teh sux they lie omg omg" without looking into it a little more ok?

I'd heard that as well (from another source) but didn't mention it because I wasn't clear on the details.
