Not Talking

Yesterday I had a minor vocal surgery which makes it very difficulty to talk for the next few weeks. I didn't think it would be a big deal... but it's a down right pain in the ASS.

Any recommendations on surviving the next week or two? I'm a VERY talkative guy and it's a real PITA currently.

P.S. It wasn't a major surgery, so don't worry about that.

I'd just write everything down. I'll be close to your situation in a week, getting my wisdom teeth taken out. Two impacted. What fun. Might I ask what the surgery was for? Or what the surgery was called? I like to know medical things....

This is going to sound very odd, so trust me that I did my research before choosing the operation. I don't think it has a technical term, but I had botox injected into my vocal cords. It's an alternative surgery use to help reduce vocal tics for people with Tourette syndrome. So far it's done everything BUT reduce them... but it's only been about a day or two. I'm hoping for the best

Well it stopped you from talking, that sort of counts as a reduction...

That sounds...interesting. If it does help you should notice it within a week I'd think. But then again, I don't know much about it. Hope it works though.

While the intensity has not changed, the frequency has seem to gone down.

That's awesome. When you got the surgery, how was it done? Did you go completely under, or did they give you a few drugs to just make you not care about what was going on? I'm going in to the O.R. Thursday to get some intubation training in again, so that's what's on my mind.

All jokes aside, ASL isn't that hard to learn. The problem is, unless you're already deaf it won't do you much good as none of your friends or family would know it. Stick with texting on your cell and get a little dry erase board with extra markers for now.
