Incremental rotation thing

How do you do that thing where you make a cross section of a cylinder design, then "paste special" x copies with x rotation to complete the cylinder? For example, making one spoke of a wheel and then pasting it with x copies and rotation to make a complete wheel. My google skills have failed me, im sure there was a tutorial on the interwack for this.

are you talking about "ctrl + m" to rotate an object?

like barron said, hammer doesn't do arrays.

neither does it allow you to pick a center point to rotate objects around. instead, it rotates around the center of the object.

so, to make a wheel with 12 spokes (think clock numbers), the first spoke might be at 12. if you were to copy/rotate it by 30 degrees, then the original and the copy would have the same centers, and the copy would need to be manually positioned to point at 1 o'clock. next one would be the same etc.

if you were to copy/rotate the first one by 180 degrees, it would still need to be lined up with 6 o'clock, but the center of the 2 pieces (12, and 6), would be the exact center of the clock face. now select both pieces together, and any further copies will rotate on the center of the clockface.

well i think you can change where the center point is though, there is a little dot in the center of the selection , afaik when you drag that dot in the viewports it will off-center it -edit nm i thought it was doing it but it doesnt

you can try making an archway with the angle set to 360 degrees, then using the add height thingy. that makes spiral starcases etc

I wanted to make a complicated "slice" and have it copied to make a cylinder with detailed sides. No biggie, not wanting to make anything specific just mess around, this would be a useful function tho.
