EA finally caught on with the DRM bullshitery

EA will be releasing many recent popular games via steam WITHOUT a third-party DRM.

Have they finally caught on?

Maybe it had something to do with the top 10 pirated games of 2008?

(Last time I checked)

And the idea that I need to download the game after buying (multiple times if I reformat (or can you just copy the .gcf files instead of downloading numerous times?)) just to play the game turns me away!

I have one but it is not accepted by Steam! The card selection seems to be geared toward the American audience, or to those whom own credit cards :S

I also like to have the hard copy of a game.

And I thought most cards used Mastercard or Visa as their master system? Hell, our german foreign exchange student's debit card was Visa.

Actually, that whole "backup games" thing doesn't work very well. I tried that when I moved shit from my old computer to this one.... and for some reason, wouldn't let me do it.

Wasted 8 DVDs on that shit. Pissed me RIGHT the fuck off.

Steam is buggy. It causes a hard lock on my system randomly whereas the 4 dozen other games I play on it work without trouble...including Fallout3 and Crysis. I've run the gamut troubleshooting it and I'm completely unwilling to continue chasing something that should be a non-issue.

Secondly, I cannot find a strong enough negative word to describe my feelings about any company that wants to interject their "mother may I" to install or play anything on my system. I want my only contact with that company to be when I download patches that may be needed. I don't want authentication to install and I don't want to authenticate to play the f***ing game.

Third, I don't want to have to use a "backup" feature to get my installation media that works unreliably.

I guess that's where personal feelings start coming into play. I don't mind it, and I think it gives Valve a better way to keep their hard earned money and provide for smaller companies to have a better market and sales. I can understand not wanting that kind of authority though.

I've never used the Backup option.
whenever I've needed to zap my system/replace HDD, I've simply copied all the GCF files elsewhere, then dumped them back in place after reinstalling Steam on the "new" system.

I tried the Backup Game option but after twenty minutes of waiting I saw only 1% progress, so I ended up not bothering. Whee!

That's what I ended up doing... except I also had my TFC and FF maps to worry about, and do you know how long it takes to re-DL 25 games on Steam? And I have CABLE!
