Crashing when I spawn
As soon as I spawn, it gives me this:
"failed to lock index buffer in CmeshDX8::LockIndexBuffer" I looks like a direct X issue... Dunno why its saying DX8... I was getting similiar crashing errors in CSS awhile ago but when I upped my drivers that fixed it. I have the most recent drivers now. Help? |

if your running anything besides dx9 why not just use dx7? the game is still incomplete.. get lots of errors messages that say it hasnt been implemented for a certain dx version and lots of things just plain missing. shouldnt crash you though. might as well try dx7 though. at least you will get better fps and you will see through a bunch of stuff. if that doesnt work try taking it out to dinner.

DX7?
Ok... heres a noob question... Can I have DX7 and DX9 at the same time? I got lots of games that need the most recent Direct X version (apart from 10) |

my answer to that was a bit hasty. you computer can do anything up to dx9 (or 10 with vista). some games auto detect which version to use. some, like hl, let you choose which you want to use. but you cant render the game using both at the same time.

So you think I should Reinstall DX9, or install DX7?

sorry check my last post. im sick so my brain isnt functioning properly :P
as long as you have the latest version installed you can change which dx version your game is rendered at. go to your games in steam, right click on ff, properties. advanced launch options. "-dxlevel 70" without the quotes. hit ok. or 80 for dx8 or 90 for dx 9. if you change it to 70 or 80 you will have to set it to 90 and run the game again to get dx9 back before removing that line completely. |

hey.. how do you get it to start in a specific res using the advanced launch options?
Running it in DX7 makes it not save my video settings for some reason. So I jhave to set it to 1024x768 each time I tried -mode 1024x768 and -mode 1024 x 768, but they didnt work. |

Right-click the desktop icon and choose properties. Put -w 1024 -h 768 at the end of the "target" field.
