Help?
So.. today is my birthday. I wake up to get 2 brand new gigs of corsair ram, same exact size/type as my current stick. When I put them both in, computer does not start. 1 long beep, 2 short beeps. however, if I only put one in (for a total of 2 gigs) it works fine. I tried to find what the beeps meant in the mobo manual but couldn't find it.
I have an asus a8n-sli 939 nforce4 mobo and am putting in 3x1gb sticks of 184 pin corsair ddr400 (pc3200) ram. I've tried many different positions of the ram but none seem to work.. they are set up A1 A2 B1 B2 I tried the new sticks in A1 and B1 and old in A2, didn't start. old in B2, same. Basically any combination of 3 sticks did not start and gave me the 3 beeps, 1 long 2 short. Please help me! I hate not being able to fix things. |

As far as I know, you have tu use an even pair of sticks.
Have you tried A1 B1 or maybe A2 B2 ? |

I have done many combinations.. 2 new sticks in A1 B1/ A2 B2 / A1 A2 and switched the third stick between the 2 empty slots, none worked.
How gay would that be if I had to bad ram slots. I currently have the 2 new sticks in A1 A2, and it shows 2 gigs running.. but doesnt seem at all faster to me. Any combination involving 3 sticks, or even the B1/B2 (third and fourth slot) did not seem to work at all. Does anyone know what those 3 beeps mean? or just something generic like "memory problem" |

Just thinking out loud here but have you tried removing all dust from inside the case and mainly the RAM slots?
Also check you sticks for scratches on the copper surface or some other kinds of damage on the chips, maybe something went wrong when pulling out the old sticks. |

Not sure what BIOS you have, but here are some of the basic meanings:

To do this, you have: "A" (Old one gig of 184 pin corsair ddr400 (pc3200) ramPut in A and B, try to boot. Put in B and C, try to boot. Put in A and C, try to boot. If it boots on all three of these then you know the ram is good, so it's something else. Also, when your computer does boot get the CMOS type, that's what we'll need to look up your beep codes... but I'm pretty sure 2 beeps is a CMOS issue. It may need to be upgraded to handle over 2 gig of RAM. Scuzzy
