Simply press Winkey + Pause/Break to bring up the System properties page. It should tell you there whether it's 64 or 32bit - actually if it's 64bit, you may have a C:\Program Files(x86) folder
Personally, I'd stick with 32bit Vista until 64bit driver support is more mature. |

I'm confused as to what exactly you are asking but I'll go ahead and say this:
Vista comes in two flavors of 32bit and 64bit. You can't have both on on CD/DVD. 64bit costs more. I do not know if Vista Home Basic comes in 64bit. Why do you need 64bit anyway? Vista is buggy enough as it is and 64bit hasn't completely caught on yet. You don't need a 64bit OS if this is the other thing you were wondering. Just because your hardware is 64bit capable doesn't mean you need it in the OS. Right now its more of a headache than its worth. I would highly suggest to upgrading at least to Home Premium. |

Yes you can get Home Basic 64-bit eg. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wind.../dp/B000MFDJ06
Seeing as you have got 4GB of ram i presume you want to be on 64-bit? edit: we need more info tbh, If you have the 32 bit edition on DVD you have to send off for the 64 bit one, or just download it |

it doesnt say 32 or 64 bit. some ppl say it will give me the option other ppl say it wont. this is taken from windowsvista.com from the discription of Vista Home Basic:
"Note: If your system features a 64-bit processor, you can take advantage of its advanced design in this edition of Windows Vista." see why im confused?

Just install it, if the option comes up select the one you want. If theres no option install anyway and then find out once inside windows, if its not the one you want you can stay on it anyway until you get the version you do want, then format and install the right one
