Low FPS Textures
We need this...I can't mod for shit, and I know that it's a huge project but if someone would be willing to take this on I think it would help a lot.
I'm thinking something similar to Dr.Flexyjerkov's Texture pack Here's another one of his

^Agree 100%
But they ARE needed for people who want the game to run better on their computer.

Easy to do are low poly models, and they don't affect visuals (since low poly versions of the models only get used when the models are far away).

I agree there needs to be alternatives. I personally enjoyed the bathroom tiles everywhere. I carried a urinal cup in my backpack to give it that extra fresh smell everywhere I went.

I thought HL2 had a LOD system which made the need for such system resource savers unnecessary.
besides, the games like 3 years old already. |

This would be useful for my lappy it struggles a bit. I will be checking out high fps configs first though.
You could do a trick and replace all blue team walls with a mostly white colour with a slight hint of blue and the same for red's base and make the floor textures all another colour same with the ceilings. Job done. Theres just a lot of them to replace so I writing a program/script to do it would be worthwhile. |

This really isn't an easy job at all. So many maps use so many different textures, its not the same job as making them for TFC. There are >120 different Textures used in ff_bases not including signs. A particularly bad map for use of different textures. ff_monkey only uses 20 but none are the same as bases or most other maps. Then of course there's schtop with completely different textures again and ff_ksour.
It's entirely possible to try to get all wall textures pointing to one simple texture file (etc) but it's still a case figuring out what textures need doing. I don't think the textures will help that much for FPS either. I can't be 100% sure but it's usually the spam (CPU power) and brush detail in the maps than the textures used that will slow your PC. A test could be done on one map for this theory without TOO much effort but I personally won't be devoting my time to it. If you're gonna test a map then test monkey and make textures that tile 64*64. everyone has access to the monkey vmf I believe so they could do this themselves with reletive ease. |

You'd do better disabling normal/env mapping and expensive water, and you can already turn the texture quality down. At that point you are probably limited by your CPU anyway.
