"Incorrect Reading Frame"
I apologize if I'm requesting help for an issue that has already been resolved, but I couldn't find any threads discussing this.
Ever since I got FF (about six months ago now), I have been plagued with being dumped from the server with the message "Disconnect: Process Usercmds: Incorrect reading frame". It never comes at a fixed time; I've managed to get a good 30-45 minutes in before getting kicked with that message. FF's the only game I've been having issues with this on; neither TF2 nor DIPRIP are having the same issues. Assuming it was an issue already fixed, I adjusted my firewall settings to open ports 6881-9, and managed to get about twenty-thirty minutes of play time before getting dumped again. Pulling up the Devs' Console doesn't show anything unusual before the kick. It also mentions checking incoming and outgoing code for mismatches, but I (1) don't know how to do so and (2) wouldn't know what to look for in any case. I'm curious as to what precisely is going on and how to fix it or, optionally, instructions as to how to look at incoming/outgoing code to find mismatches if the information here isn't enough to help. Thanks in advance. Already Tried

From a quick Google search and some hasty German translation, it seems that this fellow corrected it by upgrading his router's firmware.
... Well you could certainly try it.

Apologies for the double-post, but my forum experience has taught me that edits often get ignored.
I updated the router's firmware, but it didn't solve the issue - I'm still getting kicked for "incorrect reading frame". Any other ideas? |

I tried V3rtigo's suggestion (reinstalling the SDK Base and FF) but, no effect.

Try setting different rates for cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate and rate
cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate can range from 20-100 and rate from 7500-25000. |

I've added rate.cfg to the config folder for FF and tweaked my FF rate; but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Last edited by Song; 10-30-2008 at 06:00 AM. |

I apologize for the double-post...
v3rtigo, I'll ask again (since it has been a while): Could you please explain what cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate do and how one could change them? Does anybody else have any ideas? Failing that, how would I check the incoming and outgoing code for mismatches? |

Try playing without a router, just connect directly to your modem. Maybe the firmware update didn't fix it for you, but you can still see if it is the router.

Try testing your system in a listen server, your own, and see what happens. If nothing happens, then it's your internet. If something does happen, i would suspect your computer. Try reinstalling your GPU drivers.

GREENDAY) So, simply set up my own server and play?
As an aside, I also just changed my settings to match DX8 (the maximum version of DirectX my graphics card supports). Last edited by Song; 12-12-2008 at 06:17 AM. |
