Valve uses a professional version control system called perforce its built into some of their tools to automatically keep content, code and tools updated.

its so a dev can save changes and its updated to every other system (when accessed) instantly.

Ok so still having the same problem but:

If I load up my sdk under the portal option...I can load up my map and see my textures, but obviously can't use any specific FF textures or anything b/c it's running for portal.

If I start up my FF dir. then I get the same wireframe crap from before!

I am running with -engine ep1 -nop4 in the launch options and still nothing...anyone have any ideas?

its because retard valve fucked up Hammer for pre-EP2 engines. It shows up as wireframe in EP1 and back, i dunno bout HL1 engine, however. FF obviously runs on the EP1/HL2 engine, and thats why it doesnt work. Portal runs on the EP2 engine, thats why it shows up. Valve needs to fix their shit, they must htink everyone bought EP2.... what a dream they are living.

Come on nod do you really think I was that stupid? I tried that a million times...that and every other option available under the camera view...nothing works everything ends up being wire frame!

@greenday...I agree that it's stupid, but if you read on the forums...he wasn't able to beta test it first so this is kinda expected...I'm sure they will fix soonish!

Valve totally fucks up hammer every time they try to update it. EVERY TIME. Is it really that hard to test a piece of software? It's maddening.

you can only test software for computers so well, there are many thousands of computers out there and many Hundreds of ways each pc can be set up with different hardware, software and operating systems.

add in a complex system such as steam everything gets even more complex for testing, also be aware that the SDK was never originally designed to operate with 2 separate versions of the source engine.

be happy valve even supports the older version of the engine most other company's just move on after something is released a lot of them never releasing developer tools in the first place.

the problems will be fixed with time, it may be a while though as as far as i know currently theres actually only one person working on the sdk: Mike Durand.

Yeah i emailed mike on Sunday and he asked me to send him the .vmf b/c he isn't able to duplicate the issue. He is actually working on it, but until he can duplicate it to see what it's doing we're all pretty much SOL on getting it fixed!

The games valve releases aren't this buggy and incompatable. I know they do a huge ammount of testing on those, and I wish they'd dedicate a fraction of that time to the SDK. The source engine is all about being modable so you'd think they'd be a little more professional about maintaining the SDK.

At the very least they should have an easier way for people to regress to earlier working versions.
