The problem with the highly reflective cubemaps in source is that they're a very obviously fake reflection. If they made a shader that actually had a realtime reflection I'd be happy.

Wouldn't be too bad. Water in source is already real reflections, plus like 4 other shaders at the same time, and often covers a large part of your screen.

Those GPUs would have to render the reflective water in maps anyway. That's like saying you shouldn't make a new cubemapped texture because cubemaps are hard on the GPU.
