chunks
Ok, I am experimenting with source, nad people have been recommending taking chunks out of concrete walls. How do you do this?

Two options as I see it:
-You could use a standard HL2 prop for a destroyed section of the wall, but this will really restrain you in the width of the wall as well as the texture choice. -You can just make it out of several individual brushes. Experiment with the clip tool (shift+x) to divide a single brush into several others, and then clip away edges to make it rougher and give it a blasted away look. |

what I'm trying to do is make it look like a heavy metal support crashed into the concrete ground leaving a crater in the concrete, but I will look into what you said, sounds good.

You should use displacements for the crater then, and use a brush/model for the metal girder.

I used the clip tool on the quake engine, but I am new to source mapping. Right now I am making a room that I can go back and look at when I have questions.

You can do this pretty fast using the clipping tool. Or like others mentioned, try doing it using displacements.

Poke around that wiki site, it's good. Also, I frequently visit www.snarkpit.net and www.interlopers.net Interlopers has more tutorials, but they both have active communities. |

You could use one of the broken concrete props and hide it under the street. When the girder crashes down some brush is moved out of the way, deleted, broken, or whatever revealing the model. You could use something like models\props_debris\concrete_spawnhole001a.mdl
There's a ton of other broken concrete models in source to take advantage of too. |
